Subject: I like Melanie's Idea

I like the idea of having a calander of different images from people printed and sold. Could this possibly turn into a future challange? Something like the best 12 get put in or something. It could be like - I dunno...an annual thing. Just and opinion.. -Matt

I like that idea alot. Maybe have several calenders covering different subjects ,ie; landscapes , portraits , sci-fi etc.

I'm pretty new here, but I really like this idea. It's very possible to make sales to people outside of both Renderosity and Renderotica by doing this. Possible maybe for those of us without income to contact our local bookstores and sell them there? to help with supporting our addiction to these websites. Or maybe find a publisher willing to help support a venture like this. Maybe a few well placed banners on our websites to advertise them? That way we could all help, even those of us still in the beginning stages of learning.

I thought this idea had been forgotten. I still think it's a good one, but nothing's been mentioned about it for a while. My first proposal was to do it for charity, but if the artists want to make a little money on it, hey, why not! Anyone willing to start the ball rolling? Melanie

This might also be a good way to help support Renderosity, since others are helping with sales in the store. Melanie

The drawback is, somebody has to print the calendars and to pay for it before a single calendar has been sold! Somebody has to store the printed calendars somewhere. And, and, and ... Sounds like much work and much costs before you can earn your first few bucks. I like the idea anyway! - wak

If someone has Adobe Acrobat 4, it can save full color files in a relatively small, print-ready format. This is ideal for short-order print runs. Of course, this would require: 1) A person with a fast internet connection, and a lot of storage space, to compile and store the calendar 2) Either the person in #1 or someone else having contact to a print shop willing to do small runs 3) Artists to produce good-sized art in a print-ready format (no 72 DPI low quality JPGs!). 4) Someone to coordinate the whole project. Over at Willow's PFO, Willow tried to get something like this going a few months ago, but there wasn't much interest in providing art for it (I think someone DID put one out for 1999, but it was done on their own, with art collected from the galleries and permission obtained from each artist, and $20 a copy or some such - and it just barely covered expenses at that, IIRC), and the project was set aside when they started having server problems. It's a good idea, but we'd need to work out the logistics first. If an Admin has Acrobat 4 and (ha!) free time, maybe they could get the ball rolling... Of course, I suspect there will be a plethora of images offered for months with major holidays... Maybe each month should have a submission gallery/forum (like the one for the BBay/Renderosity contest a few months ago) here; the winner (based on popular vote, I guess) would be asked to provide a high-resolution version of the image, and maybe be given a store credit or something as a prize (along with a free copy of the calendar when it comes out)?
