I just discovered this website last night and was amazed at the digital graphics work present here. I was thrilled to find a photography forum as well.

So, being an amateur photographer with a a years worth of digital images to show off, I thought I would post a few to the gallery for some critique and comments.

I have read several of the current months posts and can tell that this is a knowledgable group so please feel free to offer advice and I hope to bug all of you for some tips as I go along.

For the record, I own and use a Sony Mavica FD-97 that I love. It only does 2.1 megapixels but it has several great features that I don't think I can find in a camera today and it does pretty well at everything I can throw at it. I gave up on 35mm film cameras several years ago when I found the price of developing more than I could take. If I had the money, I would do more 35mm work but with my Canon S9000 printer and my Mavica I can do just about anything I want for now.

So, that's the intros and I look forward to your reviews of my work and some lively exchange. Oh, and I promise not to post pictures of my enlarged body parts ... at least not til we get to know one another a little better, anyway.

Doc

Welcome aboard! Questions. So many questions. One is that I too own a Sony Mavica camera BUT mine is an old FD-7. What is a FD-97? I can tell it has better resolution however how old is yours how large is a typical file, what is the zoom yadda yadda ect. The other question is...what is wrong with enlarged body parts. Dumbo was happy to have large flappy ears! Just kidding. =:-) Seriously glad to see another Mavica user that I can compare notes with. Bsteph

Welcome to the forum! Nice photo, I tried to capture a bumble bee this weekend and managed on good shot. So I can appreciate the hard work (or luck) it takes to capture one of these guys.

Welcome! And great shot! I can never catch these little buggers, try as I might. Glad to have you aboard. We can be educational, witty, and occasionally loony! But we are always fun! Magick Michael

You some strange humaniods. I can see this will be a fun group. As for the bee, catching one that has pitched is easy, try this shot. Not a great picture but hey, I ain't that good yet. The Mavica FD-97 came out about the same time as the CD1000. I think that was the first CD burning Sony. They both came out a little over 2 years ago. I waited for a year for the price to frop from over $800 to around $550 and bought it from eCost January of last year. You still can't find the same camera for less than I paid for it. It has 20x zoom that is progressive from 0 to 20x and does an excellent job. I love zoom and it was a key selling point for this camera. It also has steady shot, so at 20x it doesn't shack all over the place, I haven't seen that feature on hardly any of the newer cameras. It uses floppy, which I thought was worth it at the time but I was wrong :{ but it also uses the memory stick and with a 128meg stick, I get about 150 shots per stick. The batteries last about 2 hours on a charge if you don't use the LCD screen. It has a through the lens veiwfinder that I would not own a camera without. LCD's just don't cut it for me. Oh, a 1200 x 1600 image, the best it will do in jpg format makes about an 800k file, depending on colors, details, etc... The camera is big and bulky, it feels like a 35mm SLR, I also like this. Those new dinky things are too small for me. This camera has some weight and size to it and the controls are spread out enough that you don't have to feel like you are cramming your finger up your nose to get at the various controls. Zoom and a lot of other frequently accessed buttons are on the front of the camera or on the barrel of the lens. Oh darn, I am running on and on. To cut it short, I love the camera and don't think I can replace it with anything less than $1k today and probably not even then. In the past year, I have taken over 2,000 photos and that probably is as much as I have taken and developed for the past 25 years. OK, so there, now you know, never ask me about my camera again. ;-) As for body parts, how the heck do you tack a picture of your armpit? I'm going for the big toe and will make that my contribution later.

Doesn't everyone have a picture of their cleanly shaven armpit? I thought that was S.O.P. Oh well. Looking forward to checking out your gallery.
