The trouble with Poser 4 is that it hasn't been carbonized- doesn't work natively in OSX. So it has slowed down because you have to run it in Classic. It is still a pretty fast renderer. At least compared to Bryce 5 which now runs natively in OSX. :D Don't get me wrong, I still love Bryce. :) I also have an old Mac. At 400mghz, I don't expect the speed of light. ;) You can tweak hardware, you can tweak software... especially now that OSX has unix, yes you can do all of that stuff. Read up on it if you like. :) BSD has a large open source community... Here's a start point- http://www.apple.com/macosx/ I basically have an older Mac that I found cheaper to tweak, with yes, faster harddrives, upgraded the OS to X, and added LOTS more RAM. If I wanted I could get a better graphics card too and there are processor addons to raise the speed done by non-Apple companies like http://www.powerlogix.com/ http://www.sonnettech.com/default.html www.xlr8yourmac.com But I'm actually waiting for the G5 Mac processor, that will hopefully! have some speedy new IBM chip technology. These days software tends to come out both Mac and PC. For example, I do play games, and Diablo 2 LOD came out for both Mac & PC at the same time. Same for The Sims :Unleashed. If not there's a short lag period that I don't mind... like Civilization 3. As for Poser 5, well... I'm waiting to see how Daz Studio comes out. I never even upgraded to Poser 4 PP. If you're the impatient type, since Macs have UNIX you can run all of the open source software out there AND you can emulate windows. ;) When it comes to word processing etc, it really is up to your preferences... I prefer to have more options, and now I can use stuff from Openoffice.org on my Mac. :) You can be a server, you can do code... follow the resources from Apple. :)
