Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Hi Folks! dzarts, Poser needs lots of RAM to be comfortable. It's not unusual for a regular user-- PC or Mac--to allocate 125MB or more to run Poser effectively. You can get by with 64, but complex textures or transparency maps will probably get you lots of error messages and crashes. The other part of your question is puzzling. Don't the .bmp for the figures you mentioned come with the software? (I'm not making an accusation, but it seems strange to me that you need to get them if you already have Poser.) Peter (Dr Zik)
Leeroy, what other programs are you running? I had Poser render an image with five lights (three infinite, two spot -I need to go back and re-do them, now that I've learned more intelligent ways to handle lighting!), five HUGE props, and at least six characters (standard Poser ones with some attatched props); took about 90-120 minutes total, and I have a PII/Celeron 266 with 128 MB!
Hi Folks! dz, thanx for not getting offended about my question. In a recent thread at this Forum lots of folks complained about the creeps who puruse sites like this one and attempt to get legitimate registration numbers for illegally obtained software, and I guess I overreacted. Here's another thought: I'm making do right now with only 96MB of RAM, although I plan to add at least 128 more this summer. But thanx to Ram Doubler by Connectix, I'm comfortably allocating 80MB to Poser, which seems enough for most of my projects. (Infini-D and RayDream Studio crash unmercifuly when Ram Doubler is enabled, but that's another story.) You might also look into getting Conflict Catcher to help you determine which extensions and control panels you can turn off to make Poser and your Mac run more efficiently. I didn't mean to make plugs for these products, but they do work. Perhaps Apple's OS X will make some sense out of all these issues. Hope this helps. Peter (Dr Zik)
