What have some of you done with Bryce's animation abilities? I have posted a link with some of the animations I've made and I'm wondering what you think of them and what animations you guys have made. Looking forward to the responses, Andini

go to download section...its called "Wright Bros Flight"...its 8.5mb and is divx codec ...heeehee, dont laugh, I made this a couple of yrs ago in Bryce 4 with post in premiere. Some of the camera positions may be confusing but I had to put them there because I was doing this for a project for one of my professors and had limited artistic freedom :- But oh well, its kinda fitting seeing as the Wright Brothers first flight had its 100th anniversary earlier this year

Clay: Shahnra is incredible!

Andini ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 8:59 PM

These all look great! clay, yours really opened up a lot of possibilities to me. I definately think that music helps a lot and that a simple 5 second silent animation is nothing when compared to these!

Dash101 ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 10:04 PM

Hey excellent topic. I recently completed producing an Imax film called Kaishi: Gaia's Requiem. We used Bryce for all the time-lapse stuff and turned out fantastic! I've got a copy of the film I could post but i dont have it on the web yet...

unless someone wants to host it.... lol

dash how big is the movie file?

Dash101 ( ) posted Fri, 02 May 2003 at 8:12 AM

Mad: I can mpeg it or avi it to pretty much any size. At the current status, its about 61 megs at a 320x144 resolution.. The original file.. That is to say when we completed it for the Imax screen was 8.1 gigs

I have a cheezy little animated .gif I made. It's not much, I guess it's an animated illustration thingy. If for some reason the link provided doesn't work right try cutting and pasting it to a browser window. Usually it'll work that way.

Very impressive work you guys! By the way clay, your stuff just knocks me out. I would buy a copy of Shahnra if and when it becomes available. Is there any chance you could do a tutorial on how you compress your excellent animations? I love the look you get. Do you render at full resolution and then compress using an app such as Cleaner? Really curious, thanks.

clay ( ) posted Sat, 03 May 2003 at 2:15 AM

Yes I use Media Cleaner Pro to compress, I render with no compression schemes at all till the final compilation, if you use a codec for each animation clip, then you recompress to make a simple movie you degrade the quality by compressing it more than once, I render everything with no compression out of Bryce, then edit, and compresss when it's in digital format, makes life a lot easier hehe. Never compress your animation or video until it's time to compile for the last call on putting it out. But for the web, 12-15 FPS will work and I use MPG4 QT now so it makes my worls and user's a lot easier to view.

Great! Thanks a lot clay! I learned a lot from this. Luckily my video class at school just got Media Cleaner Pro so I will have a chance to try out your tips. Now, if I just had your talent for visualization! Keep up the awe- inspiring work!

bulldawg66 ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 9:46 AM

Clay, did you do those animations or parts of them using Bryce or did you use other programs as well? It looks as if you might have used Mojo or LW. Was just wondering. Thanks.

clay ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 11:36 AM

It's all Bryce bulldawg66, I animated the seperate clips then edited them together and added the music bed using Adobe Premiere.

All I have to say is WOW!!! I know it's quite a bit of work but quite a bit of it looks like it came from a high end program...now I am really in awe of what can be done with Bryce and some people's capabilities. And I here I am just plugging away trying to make my own props LOL. Just out of curiosity, how much background do you have in graphics and/or artwork? How long have you been using these programs? I'm not expecting to have my own abilities up to this level for some time. But it can be kind of discouraging as I've already been playing with Bryce for about 2 years and just about the time I think I'm getting along, I see material like this that makes me wonder if I'm ever going to catch on. I'm greatly intrigued by the animation prospects though, and that was what got me interested in the first place. Great work. Let us know when you have the movie done in it's entirety (sp?) as I would be very interested in it. Thanks for the response.

Thanks Bulldawg:-) You can check out my Resume on my website, it pretty well tells my background. I've been doing graphics and 3D for about 13 yers now. And The Shahnra Project movie is one those neverending pet projects that I do in my spare time, so I don't know if a final movie will ever get done LMAO!!

bulldawg66 ( ) posted Sun, 04 May 2003 at 1:19 PM

I always wondered what people did while I was off travelling. Quite the impressive resume, I wish I had the ability to stick with things like that. Unfortunately I spent most of my years doing other things. But WOW!!! I can say that I am impressed but that wouldn't cover it. Anyway, I do like your animations. I have seen some other but they don't seem to compare. Again. Thanks for sharing it with us. I really do hope to see more in the future.
