Subject: Changing MT tracking does not, repeat NOT work

Putting this in a new thread so as not to pollute dodger's thread below. See posts #8, 20 and 21 at the link for the full scoop.

Basically, dodger said there could be a way to force MT tracking. I said I'd tried it umpteen times with no luck. Then I thought I'd cracked it by altering the sensitivity in the MT dialog box and saving, instead of doing it in the cr2. Now I find that doesn't work either!

It does save.... but then re-opens in poser with the old tracking value.

So, I'm back to my original statement.

"Pity that no matter what you do, the tracking for morphs never changes"

Anyone care to correct me?

mac

There is one workround I know of for this, but it involves ERC, and so is subject to crosstalk (P5 excepted?). Slave the targetGeom to a valueParm channel in the same body part (or where ever you like), set the deltaAddDelta in the targetGeom to 1.000000, set "hidden 1" to avoid confusion. Set the trackingScale of the a valueParm channel to whatever you like. As I said, the problem is that if you load more than one instance of the thing you will get crosstalk and need a NULL figure. P.S. If you can set the trackingScale in the dialog box so that it works, you can probably set it via a pz2 also, but that only helps it you need to apply a pose in any case.

Thanks, les. I know about the slaving method, but it usually causes more problems than it solves. In this pack I'm making, I've only used ERC on 1 figure (out of a dozen), even though it would have been useful. I used it on a figure that has 4 doors/4 shutters, to rotate and slide them open all at once. But I generally try to avoid ERC whereever possible. mac

OK, here is a way to vary the trackingScale without getting crosstalk! It uses a discovery that Bloodsong made about "linkParms" statements in the skeleton figures, it's a kind of alternate form of remote controle that does not suffer from crosstalk between figures, it does not seem to work in all cases, but it always seems to work ok if the channels are in the same actor. Here is an example using the OpenLips morph in Posettes head. 1. place the following valueParm channel in Posettes head: valueParm vp01 { name DialName initValue 0 hidden 0 forceLimits 0 min -100000 max 100000 trackingScale 1.000 keys { static 0 k 0 0 } interpStyleLocked 0 } Note the line "trackingScale 1.000", the value can be anything you like. 2. Find the first weld statement in the cr2 and paste the folloing code directly above it: linkParms head:2 vp01 head:2 OpenLips Make sure the figure numbers (:2) match the rest of your figure, it is esantial to this technique. OpenLips is now slaved to vp01 in a way that will not suffer from crosstalk between figures. You can hide the original "targetGeom OpenLips" dial, and set the trackingScale of "valueParm vp01" to whatever you want. Because OpenLips is slaved the trackingScale in the valueParm, that channel will determin the amount of adjustment. I don't know if this technique can be used on pp2's, I have only used it on figures so far.

Thanks les, I'll try this with something, but not with the current project. The problem is I don't have any weld statements. I removed them all (useless for furniture), and I see no sense in putting them back in. The thing is, I'm 100% convinced that MT tracking is stuck at what it is, but dodger seems to think otherwise (see post below). I tried all sorts of ways years ago and gave up on it. The MT I was trying with doesn't actually need to be changed. It was just an experiment to try dodger's theory. Anyway, thanks for going to the trouble of digging this up. I'll copy it and mess around with it. Might be very useful in future. Thanks mate. mac

If you don't have any weld statments put it below the "displayOn" on statment. You seem to be right that the trackingScale of a morph channel can't be changed. I think the quote from Ajax related to a targetGeom master channel without any deltas, it might be posible to change the tracking of these channels, as I suspect that Poser uses the deltas somehow to calculate a tracking scale for the channel.

Well I did the experiment with the empty targetGeom and it seems to default to a trackingScale of 0.02, whatever the value set in the cr2, so looks like you were right about that one, there is no way to cange the trackingscale, without using some sort of slaving.
