I think he or she meant fill with black on the new Channel, although no clue why. If you want to keep the template isolated so you don't accidently move it, you just lock the layer, then delete to white when you're finished. You might want to try this one as well. Simple and very step-by-step. http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4030
he fill it with black so he can have a transparent layer...i don't know what he means....it's done in photoshop 7.... Then make a new Layer, make a selection of any channel, and fill with black on the new Layer. This gives you a transparent template Layer. I usually name this Layer Template. Go to your photo, and duplicate it to your template file. Then save this under a new name. Lets use the name TutorialBody.psd as our working name" i'm still confused on the "transparent template"
It seems to want you to make a layer which shows the black lines from the template, but lets you see the background (on which, presumably, you are going to be painting your texture) through it. Because the template is black and white all of the colour channels in your Photoshop file will be the same. Loading one of them as a selection, creating an empty layer and filling with black will give you black outlines surrounded by transparency. But as I said, just bringing the template in as a layer (drag it in with the pointer, with shift held down so that it fits in the same position) and setting the blend mode to Multiply will do the same for less effort.

i'm reading the tutorial for creating a texture based on photos, but when you start in photoshop it says this: "Open your new body template and the full front shot of your model. Youll need to change the template from Indexed color to RGB color. Then make a new Layer, make a selection of any channel, and fill with black on the new Layer. This gives you a transparent template Layer." I don't get the part "make new layer, make selection of channel fill w black on the new layer blah blah....how do i do that?? can someone will be kind and explained to me?? thanx
