well... 4) get muybridge's work, or most any horse drawing book. start at frame one, position the legs. move 3-5 frames and position the legs in the next position. keep going through the 7-10 keyframes. play animation, make minor adjustments. works great for me. :) (also: save animation to pose library for later use.)
