Another approach would be to make a compound spline object with smooth circular holes in a cylinder about the same thickness and diameter as the hemisphere, then "spherize" the compound spline object. Booleans would require too many extra vertices just to get smooth cuts for the holes; the boolean object would probably need 10 times the vertices of a compound spline object (after conversion to vertex object).
Great modeling -- wires, headphones, everything. My only comment would be that the window with the text in it appears to be stuck on -- isn't there a plate of plastic over it in the real i-pod? (I have only seen a couple briefly.) Maybe you could recess the place where the screen is and put a transparent plane over it? But I'm nitpicking. I really like the girraffe texture, too.... - Dex
Hi Dex, Youre right about the window. On the original iPods there is that glass plate. On the new ones Im not quite sure. Ive only seen photos (i used pictures from the Apple site as reference pics). Ive actually ordered a new 15 gig ipod but havent received it yet. I plan on making any needed modifications to my model once I have the real thing in my hands. By the way can I interest you in a 5 gig original iPod? :o) Cheers, Max

Hi folks, I modelling one of the new iPods. The iPod itself proved easy to do. Now I working on the headphones. Im having trouble with the little holes in the half-sphere of the ear bud piece. The image included here is made up of two spline objects (one composed of cylinders, the other is the half-sphere). This is the result of a boolean substraction, as you can see it isnt very good. I boosted the surface fidelity for both spline objects way up. I tried making the half-sphere a vertex object instead of spline (the result was worse). I tried taking the booleanised object into the vertex room and subdividing it more... help? :o) Cheers, Max PS: Il post some images of my ipod when I done.
