Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 1:45 am)
Fair enough, Poser5 didn't do it for you so you backtracked...I'm fairly happy with P5 though, but as I understand things, different people with different CPU setups have different experienses with P5. I agree with you that it seems CL sold the program a year too early since so many people have had problems, but then again I personly haven't experienced any major issues... Anyways, glad you're enjoying yourself again, that is afterall what this is all about :-) -Hanz
It doesn't matter what cpu or system you have some items in poser5 are STILL missing, try using the hair with the fan as an example. There are a lot of promises that have been made and then blatently broken, and if anyone complains it's always their system or they don't know how to use it or they just like to bash curious labs. Hanz, do me a favor and show me some renders with the new animals as well as some animations with the hair blowing in the wind without going through the head...lol Marque
=> Marque, Heh, What new animals??!! Yeah, ok, you're right, there aren't any new animals (Were we promised new animals? I can't figure out if indeed we were promised new animals...), as for the hair-room, I don't do that many animations of hair blowing in the wind, so I wouldn't know... Aren't you happy with the P5 rendering capabilities, the materialroom etc.? It works pretty fine for me... -Hanz
Improved animals were promised to go with the improved human figures. Firefly is slow and mine has suddenly gotten substantially worse in render quality. I'm only using P4 rendering, which is also substantially slower than P4 but at least doesn't look out of focus. The Material Room is flaky and the Pose Room is substantially slower than P4. Switching libraries and using the parameter dials have become painful. I suspect that CL tried to do some programming tricks to speed up Poser which didn't work for many computers, mine included.
SR3 crashed my system to it's toes, P4 2.5 with 1 gig of ram, nothing else running. They did promise new animals, think that was just to get us frothing at the mouth so we would pre-order, beta test it and end up paying more for it than the people who waited and got a better deal. I don't get so upset with cl as I do with some folks here who insist that it's the user or the user's system that's the problem. If I buy a jug of milk and it's half full then it's not my problem, the store left out half the milk. Course we all know that if we complain about these things we are bashing cl for no good reason. 8^) Marque
Maybe I agree with people who said Cl too early release this program , but nothing perfect in this world isn`t? Most package modeling soft offer more stable & powerfull than poser in any version , but again... those need more time to learn it , i think poser the easiest prog for character creations and sadly Cl forces poser to handle another thing that they knowned Depends what u need , if u dont want spend time to learn another modeling soft to create character , the choice i think only poser with good and trouble thing they have
It ran fine until I put on SR3, then it fell down and went boom, or went boom and fell down. I am in the process of backing up everything I have bought and then I will re-install it and see if I can get it to run again. I liked a lot of the features, and most of them were working, but there are, like I said, still a lot of things missing, that were promised and have yet to appear. They get asked every update about the hair room, and they continue to ignore us about it...they don't even acknowledge the fact that there are things that were left out of the product. There are a lot of identical systems that are having problems or it's running fine, so who knows what it is. All I know is even on a fresh computer with nothing else installed but win2k and poser5 SR3 there are problems. I know there are bugs in every program, but to advertise that there is something in a program, and to this date, it doesn't work, there is something wrong there. I'm glad it's working for you, was working for me until the SR3. I just get tired of people acting like those of us who are having problems are idiots who can't set up a program correctly. Look around at the complaints about this program, are they all from the same person? No. And if you were having problems Puntomaus, I'm sure you would be upset too. Marque
Poser 5 hates me. I loaded the SR 3, and it was lockup city. Can't make the simplest render anymore, and it was bad enough BEFORE SR 3. So I emailed tech support at CL. Got reply days later that said basically "have you upgraded to SR 3?" I wrote back and said "yes, I told you that I did in the original email". Got another reply back yesterday that said "well, is it just with "our" figures, because we don't guarantee P5 works with others". Excellent. Kind of limiting to only be able to work with the native figures. ::sigh:: Anyway, I am going to cross my fingers on Daz Studio, because I don't think I will be buying anything more from CL. I have been very patient with the whole Poser 5 mess, but enough is enough. I am glad some people can use it, but I can't. ::sigh::
I don't really use the face room or the hair room. I mainly upgraded to Poser 5 because of FireFly renderer and its advertised capabilities. I have problems when I try to render an animation with heavy raytraced reflections. Poser 5 consistently hangs around the 18th - 21st frame. I've rendered the animation on my home PC (ABIT BE6 board PIII 500 with 640MB running Win2k) and my work PC (Compaq P4 1.0GB with 512MB running Win NT 4.0) with the same results. The only thing in common with both of these PCs is Norton Antivirus running on both. Someone posted in another thread that Poser 5 has problems when antivirus software is like Norton AV is "Autoprotect" mode. I do plan diabling Norton AV and testing this to see if my problem disappears. But, if Poser 5 has problems running on a PC with AV software active, then, IMO, CL has a serious problem to address. Antivirus softare is a necessity these days.
Seamyst: They actually told you that they couldn't guarantee it would work with any characters but theirs!!? What a bunch of nitwits! Maybe that's why they can't get it right.....they are only testing it with Don and Judy! Well....I suppose they don't have enough money to buy DAZ products and I suspect they've burned a few bridges with DAZ and a lot of folks who maybe worked with them in the past. I just cross my fingers every time I start the bugger up. So far....so good, but I just do simple stuff. I wish I had waited too.....and purchased Poser 4 after it became available again as a "stand-alone". At least I could have used it with Vue instead of "exporting/importing/tweaking,etc., etc."
I know after reading the posts the last few months and without any support for Lightwave and statements that the Pro version won't work with ver5 and that in the future if there is a plug-in for 3rd party software some features of ver5 still will not be available; I decided to purchase ver4 Pro from Frys at a great price. Went to amazon and purchased a couple of books on 4 again at a great price. Now I think that I definetly made the right decision. Now, CL did offer to sell me ver5 for $99, but why throw that kind of money down the sink. So I bought Mimic 1 with the free upgrade to ver2 and a $10 gift certificate again at a great price.
I'm back on SR 2.1 thanks to kev who suggested a reinstall over SR 3. I liked SR3 except that I don't run at 1600 screen resolution and that seems to be the default setting for what CL put out. They won't fix it. Its 1600 or nothing. So I went with the third option which was to go back to when 1024 worked.
I did not say that people who have problems with P5 are idiots, I just said it might be the system because I have no idea what else it could be. I don't have the problems and I am happy about that. I have it installed on my old PC that is in my daughter's room to find out, if and how it runs there. That machine is complete different from the one I am working on and there it runs too without problems. So in the end this is a mysterie for me.

Sorry, my system is ok. It work with near anything else. I never see bluescreens or have problems if I not use Poser 5. In my working life I have two professions. IT technician and designer. Well I like both parts of it. In our days it is never wrong to have two legs to stand on. So I know how to use my tools and I know how to fix problems. And you can be surem if I say something is not working like it should, it is not. Since 1993 I'm betatesting software, most 3d and design programs of all kind. I really never had anything in my hands that had that much and bad problems the time it was released. Most was working better even in the earliest betacycles. What we yet have with Poser 5 SP 3 is more like Poser 5 beta 3 and far away from the final product. Hope they will not call it then Poser 6 so all have to pay again oonly for a more bugfree version. Ah yes. I tried Poser 5 with 3 different machines. One is a very fast Athlon with 1 GB RAM and rockstable but not with poser 5. One is a P 4 around 2 GHz with yet 512 MB RAM and rockstable normally too. The third is my experimental version where I try different graphiccards and such to see how good they work. And in all installations I had problems. Some on all, some only on the P4 or only on the Athlon and some vanish or appear with different graphiccards. Never able to really concentrate on the fun creating nice scenes, all time thinking about what bug next or will I loose my work again? Thomas
The thing that stung me is that we waited so long for 5 to come out because they were supposed to be making it more stable. Every time someone asked where it was they were slammed for asking. Now we get this program that works when it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Hadn't gotten a bluescreen since the last time I installed an update...lol Kind of says something doesn't it? I'll use it on this other drive and see how it goes. I build all the systems here and also do a smattering of programming, so I don't usually have problems either. I do remember in the "beta" forum here that folks who owned AMD's were having serious problems with the early releases, so maybe they fixed that problem for some folks, who knows? Not meaning to slam you Puntomaus, you were just sounding kind of superior there for a minute...lol Marque
The way Poser 5, SR3, etc. work on some and not on others is sort of the same thing as the download problems with SR3.....some had them, some didn't. It almost seems like a quality control issue....some corruption going on at their end. It just doesn't make sense. It's either that or it is very specific to how the program is used by the user (how files are loaded, where files are placed on the harddrive, what harddrive is used, etc. The only other software that comes close to being this flaky is the windows operating system itself! :)
Sandoppe, the actual wording of the tech's message was "we do not claim compatiblity with Daz figures". Then the tech asked if the problem was with the Poser 5 figures or Daz's. ::sigh:: I did not bother to reply because I have figured out that what the tech was actually saying was "we have no clue why your Poser 5 locks up and can't help". ::wry grin:: I am glad I upgraded to Pro Pack when they had their Easter sale at CL. I am happy with that. :D My computer is an Intel 1.9 ghz with a gig of ram, huge hard drive with lots of space, running on WinXP home edition. I would expect no problems, dang it all. :)
There shouldn't be any problems with it...not with your specs. The minimum requirements are significantly less. I would suggest to CL that "if they do not claim compatibility with DAZ figures (the company who created their Poser 4 characters), does that then mean that they "do not claim compatibility" with all the Poser 4 characters that come with Poser 5?? :) I think your ultimate assessment was correct and the tech's response was simply a very poor and very lame response to your inquiry.

after using a software before. Yet I decided to sell Poser 5. Going back to Poser 4 and waiting till the Daz Product. Even with servicepack 3 many of the so called big features are not really usable. I've learned my lesson. Never buy a program too early. Wait half a year or longer and then you can do it...maybe. Oh, yes I know how to work with Poser. I'm there since Poser 1. Oh yes, I know other 3D products. For many I was one of the beta testers. So if I'm angry, I really have reasons for. Poser 5 gone and I feel better. Work with Poser 4 and have fun again instead of that really bad feelings. Thomas
