Am I the only one here that DOESN'T like the Koshini character? I know, I don't have to look at the images if I don't want to. I just cannot understand the fascination for this character. I find it grotesque, not cute. Again cute is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. No matter what they do with the character, or how they portray it, I will never like it. I am not being elitist here. I think there are a lot of "cute" characters around. Koshini, to me, is not one of them. Perhaps it a manifestation of the "Dr. Fell" syndrome.

I guess it's all a manner of whether you like the Japanese styles of Anime and Manga? Although, Koshini tends to remind me a bit more of those dolls out in toy stores right now, "Bratz"... I think she's cute.. I don't think much of Aiko though. Anime can go from making really awesome looking people (Bishonen) to downright hideous (Hentai).. go figure.

I really can't say why Koshini appeals to me? All I know is that I love her.....perhaps it is because she is cartoonish, and what-ever I do with her, I don't feel the over-whelming need to make everything "perfect" as I do when I use Vicky, Mike, etc. etc. I also have a ton of Cartoon type of animals, and they would never look right in a picture with real looking people. I like cute.....and I find her to be cute.........what more can I say? (: On the other hand, I don't like Anime or Manga....so....go figure? LOL! Genny

I thought the original Koshini was cute, though I didn't buy her. I've enjoyed the graphics other people are doing, so I haven't felt any interest in doing any of my own. I have to admit I haven't liked all of the spin offs of her, many of which I find grotesque (just a personal preference on my part, I guess, but I find the desperate need of some people to slap an engorged chest on every female creature repulsive as well annoyingly predictable). The guy versions do very little for me. Trying to make her realistic, or make her a Vicky twin seems a little pointless to me...but that's just me. She doesn't really seem very Anime or Manga to me, but this not my area of expertise and I could well be wrong. It just depends on what you want. She's more of a cartoon, and began as rather light hearted and girlish and, in that form, I rather liked her.

Well what do you think of this render...it is her, but just her face.....trying to make her like those pictures we had in the 60's ...still got lot of work to do though....Sharen I like her because she reminds me of the big eyed paintings of the 60's....can't wait for her counter part to be around.

I won't go so far to say I don't like her. But when browsing through Poser stuff for sale or free I wondered more than one time, who the heck needs and/or uses all the Koshini stuff? There are tons of it. But. Never say never. I didn't like the toonimal puppies at first. Now I'm on the rim of getting that cutie little goldie fishy. And I threw an eye on his kitty sister too. Must slap me on the fingers. Else I maybe one day will go looking out for Koshini! ;)

I think she is darling, she reminds me of many of the dolls my daughter has. She also makes a great faerie in my mind. But see I can not stand Posette no matter what is done with her I just do not like her face. And lots of Victoria characters are not that great to me but are to others lol. So go figure. I love this hobby, but it is expensive. I just can't buy every new thing that comes on the scene--unless I win the lottery or something. If that happens I will darn well try. :)

I find both the high quality of the modelling and the undeniable cuteness to be very impressive, but have declined the bandwagon for now because it's just not along the lines of what I want to do. That could change in the future. I sooooo agree with dialyn on this. I'm no prude, but to me Koshini is a charming girl, not just another sexpot, sheesh. It's precisely the playful innocence that the character suggests which I find endearing. I know, she looks like she could be 18-21 or so, but dang, give those hormones a rest for a few minutes, wouldya? :-) I don't mind nekkid Vickie. She looks adult and is adaptable to a huge number of character types and purposes. Why Koshini? Because there's something for everyone out there. People like all sorts of not-realistic characters, more than ever these days. Ever checked out the IT department of just about any company? You'll find action figures, dolls, toy robots, all that stuff happily enjoyed by perfectly healthy adults. They help to brighten days in small ways. It's nice to keep the kid inside of you alive and well. I've got the first set of "The Homies" staring at me right now from atop my monitor. They crack me up. For those who don't know, they're tiny figures of urban Chicano character types. Stereotypes, maybe, but they're meant to be cool and cute. They've inspired some seriously overbaked controversy in the past, but I like 'em. Especially since the LAPD doesn't. :-) Now if there were "Homies" figures for Poser, I'd get 'em in a sec. Koshini is for girls. (kidding...)

I happen to be very fond of Japanese Anime/Manga - but while Aiko is a little closer to that style, Koshini isn't. Aiko can be a lot more - I've seen some terriffic images with her. Koshini is more 'Chibi' (the large headed little body versions that pop up in some anime) and yes, resembles the Bratz characters. I like 'em all. :D I have to admit I love cute things, but I also love fantasy, and some sci-fi, and some Goth ... I still adore cartoons, and sigh, I love Pikachu. But I love horror movies as well, mmm vampires! hmm I need to update my Cute Brigade with Koshini... :D

I'm seriously into anime. (It's the only thing I spend more money on than Poser. I have about as many anime titles as most local video stores.) I have Aiko as well, but something about her just doesn't look quite right. Koshini, even though she's chibi, looks closer to anime to me. I'm definitely getting LadyLittlefox's male character, and I'm hoping she'll do a new female and male that are more standard anime. (And, in my mind, the hair alone in each character pack is worth the pack because it can be used without much tweaking on other figurse, so the cost of the two new figures and their clothing isn't scary for me.) No offense to DAZ, but the anime faces for V3 don't quite work. (Oh, I wish they did, though!) I have the feeling LadyLittlefox is an anime fan, while the DAZ people aren't - there's just a little something missing in the DAZ attempts. It's like reading a comic by someone trying to imitate the manga tradition by putting big eyes on their people versus someone who is familiar with the manga traditions and Japanese culture. DAZ does great stuff, but so far their anime-style stuff has been so-so while the Koshini stuff has been great.

I make a lot of noise about lusting after Aiko, mostly to pick on my missus (long story, but mostly involves her reaction to my discovering Poser and the fact that Poser has fully poseable nekkid men and womenfolk - you know, the arguments that every married guy in here has had to put up with - she didn't mind it so much after I loaded up Mike, though...) However, in all honesty, I can do more things art-wise with Aiko, things that don't involve fluffy bunnies or prancing toonimals in any way (see me gallery for details) I find Aiko to be the more serious-style of anime character, and quite useful in a lot of other renders to boot. Koshini OTOH just doesn't blow my dress up as something to own, though... at least not at this time, I guess. I suppose that it's just me saying that, and it is not for any technical reason. IMHO, Koshini represents a benchmark of humanoid originality that hasn't been seen around here in a long time. I suspect that it's because she is a bit over the top in being toon-ish IMHO, and for folks who get into toon-like renders, that's cool. I enjoy seeing a lot of the pictures folks have made with Koshini, and there are a couple of morphs that make her look quite interesting, face-wise. Me, I like something a bit less conspicuous in that direction, I guess. Crescent - I agree with you... the V3 mesh was built to mimic a human face (any human or semi-human face, really.) Anime/Manga can be done on V3 I suppose, but it'll take a lot of tweaking. Aiko is DAZ' best efforts in that direction so far IMHO. I'm still anticipating Asciicodeplus' Anime Poser-mesh attempt (and so is DAZ last I heard), and there is an oft-ignored free Yuka character that has been out for well over a year now (her eyes aren't exactly mobile, but the body morph and head are quite anime-friendly, IMHO.) /P

I have no use for Koshini. It looks hideous to me. I love anime and hentai like LaBluGirl, but see no reason to attempt to mimic the styles with 3d artwork. It looks bad. It's a mockery. Influenced by anime is one thing, but mimicking it is another.

I have no use for koshini or any of the silly "cute stuff" But there is a market here for it so i say live and let live :-)

LONG LIVE THE HOUSEMOUSE!! I love Koshini because I don't have to fuss with her. I love Aiko because she's delicate and strong at the same time. I love Vicky 2 because she's got so much to wear. I love Vicky 3 because she's so smooth. I love Mike 'cause I have Boris. But most of all I love the housemouse because of his belly and perfect little hands.

Well, I do own more than my fair share of anime, but have yet to acquire Koshino OR Aiko. I'm still working on anime-tizing Vicky 3, but that's a whole other ball of wax. Nice to finally get my textures back after being eaten. So why Koshini? Why not? Just like Stephanie, Eve, Judy, Posette, Michael, House Mouse and R2-D2, there's a little something out there for everyone. Personally, I prefer the Yuka and Mayu figures for my anime projects, but again, that's a whole other ball of wax...

Crescent - Littlefox is a fan of Anime. We had a discussion about it in relation to Koshini. It was part, but not all, of the inspiration for her. (Maybe she'll stop in and tell ya all of it, who knows. :D) To say one character, however, is anime, and one is not, however, kind of puts anime in a nice little box, which it isn't. Studio to Studio, Title to Title, Artist to Artist, heck even frame to frame and character to character in some titles, the "styles" of anime characters are so broad and vast that no one even attempting to build a "strictly" anime mesh is going to please everyone. It just isn't possible. You can not, unless you have a narrow experience with anime, narrow it down to a specific style of character. I like Koshini. Did I buy her "because" she had anime potential, sure, I guess. But I also bought her because she was just so darn cute, and everynow and then we need a break just to have fun. (And my son is in love with her. :D) I bought Aiko as well, and like her. And yes, I can envision them both being used to create "anime" art. But whether that is why people buy them, or people create them, it doesn't matter. What matters is what we feel about them personally. And personally I like them both. :D

Hmm, I don't know, I'm sort of divided on this character. I don't have her and I'm not sure what I'd do with her if I had her. Maybe some children's greeting cards or bookmarks or something. I don't know if I'll get her or not. I don't know that I'd call her anime/manga. I think she's more just standard cartoon type character. Reminds me of the old Puppetoons from the 50's and 60's. The problem is, while I think she's sort of cute in a way, I'm just getting really tired of seeing so much of her. I've stopped clicking into the threads that mention her in the subject line. I guess I've reached my saturation point for cutsey. I think she's worn kind of thin by now and I'm ready for something new and different. Melanie

Actually, I bought Koshini for the same reason Melanie didn't - Kinda got tired of seeing Vickie in all her many transformations - This doesn't mean I don't think Vickie isn't a great character, but I'd guess that 95% (if not more) of all the work shown here is Vickie. To be honest, although I can aprectiate good (emphasis on good) anime, I'm not at all a fan. Nor does cute make me go "oooh" all that often. Something about Kosh just... I'm not sure how to say it, but she just resonated with me the first time I saw her. I never make impulse buys, being somewhat tight for money most of the time, but I did with her and I haven't been disappointed -lol - you should see my files now - anything that doesn't start with a "K" has been moved to the "retired" folder. I did a render with Vickie the other day and it just didn't do anything for me. Some of the work I've seen others do with her has been quite moving and not at all cute (sharen's render is a good example). I've found her to have quite an expressive face that works well for such work. As to the whole "sexy" Kosh issue, I have to agree that I prefer her staying out of the realm of lingerie and leather. It just doesn't seem to suit her personality. but hey, each to their own. : ) Rob

Artnik!! I thought I was the only one who didn't like her! :) I don't think she's cute and I'm definitely sick of seeing her face. Now....having said that.....there are obviously a lot of folks who do like her or her little uuuugly face wouldn't keep showing up! :) No offense by the way to whoever worked their fingers to the bone making the little witch :) Everyone's tastes are different....thank god for that! :) And for those who like her....God bless ya! I think I couldn't create anything as clever and popular as Koshini if I was stuck at a computer for the next hundred years. I congratulate Lady Littlefox on her effort and her ability to touch a chord of responsiveness in so many people. I still won't buy her because I think there are enough people doing graphics with her to fill an encyclopedia, but I do look at them and many of them I like, and some of them I don't. Either way, I wish Lady Littlefox all the best in her future endeavors. Whether or not you think she's cute, whether or not you're going to buy her, whether or not you think she represents a style that you have a preference for, I think we should acknowledge that on many levels Lady Littlefox has been successful at creating an original character that does appeal to many people. And that's not such a bad thing.

Why Koshini?.....because she's the "Anti-NVIATWAS". I'm sure that alone makes her appealing to many. I don't have her,but Koshini,and all the "toonys"(toonkitty,toonpup,houserodent,etc.)would make excellent characters for childrens illustrations. SWAMP

I purchased Koshini to expand my Poser endeavors. As much as I like Victoria and Stephanie, Koshini adds a nice refreshing change of pace. Because it is a mean, ugly, frightening world out there, and people like to retreat into childhood and play with their dollies? Needing that retreat may be as pathetic as the "art". It is as good a reason as any for the sick sad-eyed children. I hated the big-eyed Keane kids in the 60s and still do. I am revulsed by Precious Moments. Hummel leaves me cold. Sad-eyed flat-faced toonimals give me the creeps... just as any biological wrongness does. I'm including a link to a website for people who want to wallow in this stuff. Oh, Sharon... Walter Keane stole his wife's art and marketed it as his own... claiming all of the money and credit for years and years. There was a lawsuit where both of them were set before easels to prove to the court who had really painted the children. Walter claimed that he wasn't in the mood, but Margaret quickly sketched out yet another droopy-eyed waif. There are some things which are naturally cute or whimsical or delightful... but these deliberate abominations are not. There seems to be a lot of "cattiness" in this thread. Of course, not everyone is going to want to get Koshini for a variety of reasons, but do they really need to be discussed? If I were LittleFox and was reading this thread, I would feel really, really bad. I think she did a great job, modeling-wise with Koshini. Maybe not to you "master modelers", but to those of us who don't have that talent....yeah. Not everyone likes cute...okay. Not everyone likes NVIATWAS or post-apocalyptic, leather-longerie wearing, door-knob-sucking lipped Vickies either, of which there seems to be a dearth. I don't mean to be catty myself, but the whole tone of this thread just gives the impression of tearing someone's work apart, just because some people don't like Koshini.

Why? Personality. She has one. And she takes you out of the photorealistic grind completely. Although I could see her all dolled up in spike heels and leather straps...totally unaware of what the dressage applies (ie: the 'Stand and Model' crowd). She's for play.

Cyhiraeth does have a point. I'd like to make clear that I do think Koshini is excellent work and I have to applause at Littlefox for creating such a unique new figure. The only reason I don't have Koshini is that she's not "my thing". But, I can still admit she's damn nice modelling work (plus if I ever had such a big hit product, I'd die happy... LOL)

I picked up Koshini and one basic oufit pack because I don't do cute very well in my illustrations but sometimes I am required to. Since I am not a cute illustrator it is good to have a reference at times. Will pick up ichiro or whatever his name is when he comes out so I can do the same thing Have a refenece for some sort of un-anime cartoonish figure. Will I do things for my own personal enjoyment? Probably not ... But it is good to have this figure for variety sake.

Sneaks in by the back door. My thanks to those who can keep an objective eye even though Koshini may not qualify for your 'cuteness' or like box. We all have preferences. As an Artist community we all should realize that not everyone is a fan of Post Modern Expressionism, Pointalism or even the entire Rococo Style movement. I myself am not a fan of Picasso's Non-Blue periods, but I admire his skill and imagination and understand that he liked it, that was what was important. Why Koshini? Well first and foremost I think I should say as the creator, I didn't make her for the world, I made her for me. I wanted a model based off of my own art style for cartooning/caricature (www.ladylittlefox.com if you haven't seen my stylistic preference). I wanted a 3D version of my art style, and I couldn't get any of the existing models out there to do it. So I had to build her myself.. had to learn Lightwave to do it which was no picnic. It wasn't until several people wanted her too that I even considered selling her. Based off of Bratz? Well it's possible she is inspired by them to some extent. My artstyle has been influenced by a great number of totally unreleated art themes most of which predate the Bratz, not the least of which being Anime, the Jenny Doll, Wendy Pini, Aimee Major, Shawntee Howard, Junko Mizuno and my teacher, the late Mark Wallace (Baron William Blackfox to you SCA folk). There is no one classification that encompasses all of my style so calling it Anime is actually rather limiting, just like calling it Cartoon. Why do other people like her? Well I cannot speak for everyone but the large majority of emails I receive back from customers have actually been from Mothers, Fathers, Aunts, and Grandparents who are now thrilled that they have suddenly become not just family but the great wielder of the cuteness maker. For those of you who do not have children, especially little girls, there is no way to really explain the pre-teen to early teen girl child to you. She is a hormonal and firmly of the belief that her parents are stupid and uncool to the point of public embarassment. It is a very difficult time for parents to find /ANYTHING/ in common with her, muchless something that they both like rather than suffer through. And now to have something that the parent enjoys (Poser) that suddenly caters to the her (Koshini is very similar to a great many of their stickers, tshirts and dolls that are currently in vogue) it has been the cause of many not-so-great-technically pieces of artwork of which the parents are incredibly proud. Suddenly they're not uncool embarassments, they're passing on what they have learned about poser and their children are not just suffering through the lesson with much rolling of eyes but are enjoying learning and becoming interested in their parent as 'cool' again. So why is Koshini popular with these folk? If you still have to ask, wait till your older... the answer will come to you. As to the rest of us who enjoy the cuteness that aren't doing it for kids... Something appeals to our likes or dislikes, why try to explain it or put numbers to it.... kinda defeats the purpose of art and expressionism if it must rigidly conform to reasons and logic. Well put Littlefox. While I don't personally care for her, my tastes are no reflection on your skills, which are superb. As Dialyn stated, I couldn't create something like this in a hundred years! I don't think it needs to be explained either.....it's simply a matter of taste. If everyones tastes were the same, this would be a pretty boring world and there wouldn't be much purpose in creating. I responded the way I did, not to be "catty" but to simply state my "very personal and very blunt" opinion about the character. I spend my entire day being "politically correct" because of what I do for a living. Consequently, I tend to be pretty blunt in some of my opinions here (maybe not as blunt as "Carolly the Opinionated", but close!). No offense meant.....you've done brilliant work with this character and should be pleased that your work has arroused such interest, diverse opinion as well as happiness for yourself and so many others! You certainly have nothing to "feel really bad" about :) Finally, people's tastes change over time....at least mine do. Less than 2 years ago, I thought Poser art in general was the pits! :) I was totally into landscapes and the "natural world", with Vue and Bryce as my programs of choice. I looked at Poser People and saw "plastic fakery". Today (maybe because the technology has improved), I see something totally different (although I still don't like "vickies in temples"). Who knows.....a year from now, I may wake up one day, look at Koshini and say "WoW!! Gotta have her"! :)

Isn't he tasty? Giggles. Hyfus was one of my favorite from that series... too bad it didn't continue past the 6th Issue. Still learning my way around morphs may take a master to pull him off.

This is an interesting thread. It just shows how subjective art really is. Everyone has his or her individual tastes. I'm still undecided on Koshini. As I said earlier, I do think she's kind of cute, and I just may get her one day, but right now, she's not on the top of my wish list. As for the quality of work, yes, she is definitely a professional job. I certainly can't do that. My "modeling" skills are pretty much limited to using primitives stuck together, LOL. I wouldn't know how to model a face if my life depended on it. I do love the toon animals and have several of them, although I haven't really used them much. I guess I'll have a try at a more toon-like style later on. I just thought this thread had a lot of interesting comments and variety of interests. That's what makes us such a fascinating group.
