Can anyone point me in the right direction to some good quailty reference photos of a female (all body parts)so i can use them to make photorealistic textures. I know levius has some in the marketplace but the size is too small, i need them to be at least 2000x2000 pixels. Thanxs Claire

xil ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 8:01 AM

Wait until monday I will have some posted for you (and about every 2 weeks after that if they sell). Mine are 1200*1600 taken about every 8 inches up and down the body with about 20 degree rotation each pass. I am almost done I just need to reshoot about a dozen shots this weekend and I will have that up in the marketplace. hope that helps!

Okey dokey

Stacey_73 ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 9:03 AM

Oh man.. You put those up for sale and I will build an alter in your honor! Honest! I will!... it may have to be out of coffee cups.. but its the thought that counts, right? twitch I bought the ones for sale in the MP, and while okay, many of them lack the focus required to do texture work. They are exactly for what they say they are for, reference. Can I weasle in a request that the focus be sharp? I need all over body shots with pores in the -worst- way... I was actually thinking about hiring a modle and photographer until I read this. Gah... Im gonna be a nwss until monday! :P

Stacey_73 ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 9:05 AM

errr.. that would be ALTAR... and MODEL and for the record...nwss = MESS... heh.. staceyish.. fun for the whole family! twitch

xil ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 9:46 AM

I am trying to get them as sharp as possible of course Here is how I am doing it: I built a rotating platform, and I am having light banks custom made. I made a vertical dolly for the camera so that it can move up and the down the body while staying at the same distance. Only the detail shots will be taken from a different distance (eyes, lips, nipples etc). Is it useful for you to know the distance and light placements? I can include all that in the readme file. The trick now is getting the digital camera to focus correctly, I have to redo about a dozen shots from the first due to soft focus. On the good ones I have very nice texturing....But I am moving a computer into the studio for instant feedback. I am trying to do this about every 2 weeks, I already have a model lined up for the 15th too. If the idea works I will continue to do them, it would be nice way to cover my studio rent :)

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 10:29 AM

That's exactly the way I envisioned doing photo shoots, except I don't have the resources 8-) I look forward to your first set! 8-)

Stacey_73 ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 11:31 AM

Sounds exactly the way it ought to be done applauding I dont really need all the camera info for any other rason than just to learn something new. Any idea on how much a package like this would run?

Stacey_73 ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 11:35 AM

oooh.. almost forgot.. Err.. Can I make the request that the model be kept makeup free? THe ones I bought had the girl wearing the worst sort of makeup, so I couldnt really use some of the best shots in the package. Also, a good front and side of the face with the hair pulled away from the face would be ideal... Am I getting pushy here? g

xil ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 11:43 AM

Wait a minute! you want me to ask a model NOT to wear makeup? Do I get hazard pay? (my intention is to not allow makeup)

Shoshanna ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 11:50 AM

Definitely no make up please....wondering how much this package would cost. Will you be doing a male model as well? Shanna very very tempted...

ronstuff ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 12:55 PM

Xil - I really look forward to your product. It sounds like you have an excellent grasp on what is needed. Even, soft and consistent lighting is a must for creating textures. I personally would prefer minimal highlights (such as forehead and nose tip sheen) because they are very hard to remove, but easy to add (and Poser 5 can produce some very realistic skin highlights so we don't need them painted in anymore). I have purchased several of the levius sets, and find them acceptable as references and even for limited texture making. But either the jpeg compression is too high or the camera was not focused well, so fine detail is missing from many of them. Also I would personally prefer to have very high quality images but fewer of them to a whole CD full of low quality ones.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 1:09 PM

I bought the levius set, too. So if your product can beat that you definitely have a customer here. Another request... ask the model to tie her hair up if it's long. Oh, and another one... A few shots in the default Poser position would be good, too.

franticly taking notes Hi-rez No makeup Standard poses lotta images Hair up (did that part already anyway) No problem! One question can shoot the model against a white wall or a green chroma screen (a fabric one but it is taunt) which works better? After these two models I will see about a male model, they are harder to find. Should I look for any particular ethic types for the models?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 2:17 PM

I would say white, otherwise you'll have weird coloured reflections against the skin.

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 3:28 PM

Ethnicity - I'd love to see oriental, hispanic, african (some with lighter skin, as there are a few good darker skinned textures already), native american, Indian (ie: from India). There are so few good ethnic characters and it would be great to see more variety!!

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 3:30 PM

Oh yeah!! One more thing! It would be great to have shots of the insides of the legs (in other words, have the model bend one leg so that we can see the inside of the other leg from the side). Does that make sense?

xil ( ) posted Tue, 03 June 2003 at 4:24 PM

Deecey, Ok I will add that in as well, good idea on the legs. Now as to models I will try to find them, it is no easy task! If this takes off I will put up posters or something. The first girl is a very pale white, the second is more tanned. adds inner legs to the shot sheet

xil, sounds like a great project! Not to insult, but make sure the exposure and white balance stay fixed...

rwilliams ( ) posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 6:33 PM

xil- I did something similar for personal use. After several tries I found out that if I lock all exposure settings from the first shot to the last, I get better results. Maybe you already figured this out. My problem was that some images had a slightly different exposure. It was very minor, but when put next to each other the difference was noticable. I think the subtle changes in skin/hair tone caused the camera to reajust the exposure. I had a Casio QV-3000EX. I found that if I put it into Panoramic Mode it would lock for the series of pictures. Now I have a Minolta 7i and can put it in complete manual. Just a suggestion.

jchimim ( ) posted Wed, 04 June 2003 at 6:53 PM

And some cameras will auto-white balance too, which can cause problems. I shoot a lot of panoramas, and the white balance and exposure makes things messy when trying to blend images. Manually set or lock everything but focus (even prefer manual focus myself.)

macmullin ( ) posted Thu, 05 June 2003 at 6:47 AM

When will these be in the market place and the price?

I am also interested in reference photos. I did some searching and I found this site. It's a neat concept.

cmjackson ( ) posted Sat, 07 June 2003 at 10:56 AM

Just thought i'd say Greybro is going to be releasing a whole package of high res photos of a female model soon. I've been talking to him and it all sounds extreamly exciting

xil ( ) posted Sun, 08 June 2003 at 9:25 PM

OK folks I finished the shoot, and I am having another memeber look over the and I will submit them after that (not sure how much time it will take for it show up in the marketplace, never done this before). I am going to price it at 20 for the first set, and I will figure out if I have to adjust things from there (need about 10 sales each set to break even) I am shooting the next model next saturday. Hopefully there be enough time to get it out and get feedback of any needed changes (not that I think there will be alot of them, but all processes are moving targets).

macmullin ( ) posted Mon, 09 June 2003 at 5:03 AM

It would be an advantage to provide a contact sheets as a download with the dimensions (in pixs) of each image of the your shoots in the free section. So we all can review the materials - I am more than sure this will help your overall sales in the long run having a presence in the free stuff.

Hurry Hurry Hurry and I'll take each and every set

Jlbrown907 ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:04 AM

Will any of you be including African-American textures in your sets? There seems to be a lack.

xil ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 9:53 AM

I am going to try! next model is also white but slight more tanned (the first model is very pale). After that I will start looking for models. I submitted everything yesterday, but it is my first time, I might have screwed something up. About how long before the thing shows up in the marketplace?

cmjackson ( ) posted Tue, 10 June 2003 at 10:18 AM

I'd give it 3 to 5 days, depending on whos doing the testing. I couldn't wait to get my first product out, the wait was killing me on the 2nd day. Claire xxx

xil ( ) posted Wed, 11 June 2003 at 10:13 PM

Me too! I am shooting the next one this weekend...just confirmed with the model. If there was a problem they would tell me or something right? (geesh quality control....) I figure they might want to see my release or something....

MysticMind ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 12:15 AM

Can't wait to see them! Ya wouldn't think that there would be that much to test with photos, huh? 8-)

xil ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 8:08 AM

Hmm seeing how this is my first time, is there someone I can check with to see if I did it correctly? perhaps I screwed up, it would be the first time, and heck it is even fairly likely.

Spanki ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 6:15 PM

Xil, another suggestion for your model criteria... try to get some FLAT-chested (or nearly so) models. The photos are much easier to deal with if you don't have large shadowed areas and creases from large boobs. As far as checking on your product, give it a few days, but if you get anxious, leave a message in the Merchant's Forum. - Keith

Xil I would prefer myself a clean body and not have to work around tattoos. Keith is correct small breasts are much better.

Spanki ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 6:44 PM

Good point about tattoos... they can always be added later.

Spanki ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 6:47 PM

...in addition, a good 'blank stare' (no smiles or other expressions) is essential too ;). And if you can swing it, she should get undressed (maybe into a bathrobe) quite some time before the shoot, to give clothing lines a chance to fade.

xil ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 6:51 PM

Ok I will try, the no tattoos thing will be a bit harder, mostly because it is such a fad right now. the other annoyance that is nearly impossible to avoid is peircings that cannot be removed. As for posting in the merchants forum, I dont have a product out so I can't I will give it another day I suppose. they really need to give you something, like your product is pending or something, I got nothing after the upload.

Spanki ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 6:59 PM

Ahh, first product, hmm... I'm not sure what you have there yet, but look on your home/artist's page... in the upper right, you should see links for: Manage Page My Shopping Cart ... ...below those, see if you have a link titled: "My Store Accounting". If you do, click on that. From the new page, you can check on pending products, etc. As for tattoos and piercings, I guess "the fewer, the better" is what to go by... if there's a tattoo on one side but not the other, we can always clone some skin to cover it up ;).

xil ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 7:12 PM

thank you so much Spanki, it is there, listed However in the future, I will post them both at renderosity and I will keep a page elsewhere, odds are something like poser.thelastvoyage.com (it isnt up yet so dont go looking). that way I can display the next model, the rigging I am using, and maybe even a little forum or something (I will check with the guy giving me the space). In the future I will be able to give you guys poses of the model, short videos, whatever you need there, since there seems to be a need I can easily fill. (anything to make the studio's rent). Oh and I can sell CD versions of the texture from there the day of the shoot, just not this first one since I checked it as "exclusive". The advantage is that they will be up the day after the shoot, the down side is that they have to travel by mail.

ceba ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 10:59 PM
