It's a long shot, but check your root directory for an autorun.inf file. If it's there, rename it to autorun.xxx and reboot. Try to run poser and or install a program again. My friend had a similar problem on Win 98, and once I got rid of the autorun file, all was fine. Seems the autorun file makes Windows think it needs a CD to continue.
