"A while back, I noticed Amazon.com was randomly manipulating prices on certain items; I called them on it with an email, their response was that they were testing "market value" or some such." Wow! That's stupid marketing. When selling a unique item, like the only 1938 Cadillac in town, it's possible to choose any price and wait till somebody wants the item badly enough to pay that price. But in an instantly competitive market like online sales of software, randomly jacking up the price is just weird.
