Don't quote me...but I think it was due to the fact that it would slow down the site (bandwidth) somewhat, and anything to keep a giant site like this as fast as possible, the better. I know avatars are used on other sites and they're cool, but other sites don't have near the number of forum posts as we do, with 10,000+ messages posted to the forums per week, the amount of little .gif kb's would add up REAL quick. Like I said, don't quote me as that being THE reason, lol...but it sounded like a logical one to me. AgentSmith
