Hey! Just had a quick question..... Do you thibnk it would be ok if i put a couple of my Infrared pics in the June challenge? Techniclly, they were taken during the day, but since i didnt use the visible spectrum of light they would be night shots, right?:) Just checking before i did anything. Thanks

Hmmm...well no. Your theory while probably correct, isn't night/low light photography. So while infrared is really cool, looks awesome, and requires skill (I know it needs to be done very carefully)..... It doesn't seem quite right to allow it into the challenge because as you said, "technically it was taken during the day"... Kinda like the guy who sent in an animated gif when the challenge was motion....that one didn't make it in either. :~) Sorry, for turning you down, but we'd be glad to take your shots that have been taken this month at night.

I'd love to see them anyway! Infrared film is so fragile that I tried it only once.....the red filter wasn't good enough :( Was the most expensive film I've ever bought, so I'd love to see those shots anyway ;)

Ooopss.... well I didn't mean don't post them at all! Of course I'd like to see them too.... I love infra red images.

Is that the filter that lets you see through clothing when used indoors during the day or summik? I remember reading about some Japanese guy getting lifted for using that in a shopping centre...... he he he (",)

you can "see" thru sunglasses and thin black and dark clothing. Thats mearly the IR light being able to penatrate objects and tints that visible light cant go through. Even then it has to be direct sunlight to really see "thru" those objects i descibed. There is no x-rays about it:P All the filter does is block the visible light and allow IR light thru to the lens. you can make a homemade IR pass filter with film by taking a pic with your lens cap on, then saving that negative of the lens cap shot and using it as a filter. :)

nah, nah, nah - it's something to do specifically with the Sony and the IR filte...... forget it, I've just remembered, it was the NIGHT filter you could get for some Sony cam - yeah, used in certain situations it could see through a layer or so of clothing..... (",)

well, never heard of a night filter, there is no other light that can penetrate clothing other than UV light. i have a sony camcorder. all you do is put the ir pass filter on and put the camcorder in nightshot mode, which moves the IR block filter inside the camera out of the way, the sony camcorders can do it better than a still shot camera. Sonys have the most ir sensitive CCD. owell, why? you been wanting someone to do that to you?;-)

Jordy's talking about the Sony nitecam. They released the camera (with an IR light) without realizing that the IR sensitivity of the camera (with the filtering the chose) was almost perfectly matched to those frequencies that pass easiest through cloth (within the range of IR frequencies). The gist of which was that it can see through many of the lighter materials (such as cotton, silk, nylon), but not through heavier stuff (like denim). If the material was wet, it worked even better (hence the perverts hanging around swimming pools and the beach). When they realized what they had done, they made a change in the camera. Problem was, the perv community had already figured it out and simply un-did the modification that Sony made. -=>Donald

i have that older model sony nightshot, its got a switch to turn on the ir led and lifts an ir block filter out of the lens path inside the camera,but you HAVE to have an IR pass filter on to do what(all CCD cameras have to have an ir blocking filter in them or they wash out purple from the ir). Sony tried fixing it by making the picture overexpose if niteshot was turned during the day, they also fixed the manual exposure so you couldnt turn it down in niteshot mode. But ppl found out different ways, put the night shot switch halfway on and off and the ir block filter inside is lifted to allow full spectrum of ir in and you can turn down the exposure but the ir led doesnt turn on,(only has a 5 ft range anyhow and u dont need an ir light durning the day)slap on a pass filter and your ready to see some panties:)

...thin, wet, white cotton... Sounds like Azra should submit a shot or three to the challenge using that camera at night. It would be interesting seeing some new techniques. About using it during the day on the beach... use your own judgement and good taste. Slappas? Alcopops? Bigg Market? I'm pretty sure I don't really need to know more.
