Make a new layer, and press G to go to the gradient tool. If the paint bucket tool is selected, hold shift and press G again. At the tool info bar(top) click on the circular gradient. Click and drag the gradient tool from the centre of the canvas to a side. Change the layer transparency to suit your needs.
