It's been proposed but the argument is that if a troll or flamer posted a nasty remark, they could go back and edit it out and look innocent if a complaint was made. You can, of course, delete the post but I believe (I could be wrong) that the system still keeps a copy of the message. You can preview the post before posting, of course. I end up in the embarressing position of deleting my last post and reposting (sometimes more than once) because I notice how often I make errors. Which means little ebots run out and tell everyone in the thread I've posted multiple times. Sigh. For one of the many forum threads on this, I've provided a link with the official explanation.
