Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
If the eyebrows are painted on the head/face of your texture, then set the 'Brows gone' morph to 1.0 and forget everything else. If the brows are painted on the head texture over to the top right, where the template has a spot for them, then... - first off, Ignore "EyeBrows" and "EyeLashes". They are not used by V2 and likely got put there by a bad (or incorrect) MAT pose file at some point. - "Eyebrows" this should be set to point at your head texture and not have any Transparency map settings at all (set it up exactly as your "SkinHead" material, since the part of the mesh it refers o is part of the head mesh itself). - "UpperEyebrows" Set this to point at your head texture (assuming it has some hair/brow-like texture painted in the upper right corner) and set the transparency map to point at a separate transparency map texture (should look black, with some eyebrows penciled out in white). If your head texture has the transmap on it instead, then just point the transmap at that and use no texture setting, just set up the color to get the brows. In either case, set both "Transparency Min" and "Transparency Max" to 100% ....voila.

Upper Eyebrows are the one you put your transparency map onto, and then set the transparency to 100%. This is also the one that dissapears when you use the BrowsGone morph. One of the others (can't remember which and I'm not at my Poser pc) is redundant and is not used. The other one is the one you set, colourwise, to use the texture you've used at the head, and the base colour here should be white (or whatever colour you used as base. As far as I remember the one at the bottom at the list is the redundant one. Same goes with the 2 EyeLashes/Eyelashes.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Err... actually, just to clarify something, in most cases (unless you have alternate eyebrows, painted on different faces), you should pretty much always set "Eyebrows" exactly the same as your "SkinHead" material, whether you are using the "UpperEyebrows" or not.

As for WHY it's there (the upper eyebrows level/s on Victoria and Michael meshes) well - while it may make the models more complex and slightly harder to use (ignoring here the extra materials which do nothing and only serve to complicate matters for no reason bar "Daz goofed") they also add to the potential for realism (or unrealism). Using the same layer as the rest of the head alone people have managed some quite startlingly wonderful images - and the theory goes that if you give the artist more capable tools, like eyelashes and eyebrow layers that can have different specularity/reflectivity/ambience (etc. etc.) than the skin, and actually can cast shadows on the skin, then the potential for great images increases. It's the same approach as Curious Labs took with Poser 5 in many respects. Some people complain that the Material Room is no-where near as easy to use (for example) as Poser 4's simple pick-a-colour paintbox. Others revel in the possibilities that the new Material room makes available - and have produced images that would be difficult to imagine producing in Poser 4 (or at least within anything remotely approaching the same timescale). In both cases (DAZ and CL) you can largely ignore the added complexity provided you mutter the right curses and throw the pile of sticks in the appropriate manner. Not QUITE as easy as jsut having Posette / Poser 4 but then if that is all one wanted one would stick with the models/programs one was comfortable with :) Cheers, Cliff

I know, I know, I know, it's the single "most frequently asked question" according to DAZ's site, in which case I would say DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Can anyone explain to me why they made it so complicated? (And Michael, too.) Is there actually a purpose to the two thick caterpillar's over her eyes when DAZ's only suggestion is to set the dial to 1.0 to get rid of them? So then why are they there in the first place? And I haven't even got to my question yet. I have THREE eyebrows in my Figure materials list - Eyebrows, UpperEyebrows AND EyeBrows (note the subtle difference). I also have Eyelashes AND EyeLashes. What is going on there? And that still isn't my question. I just can't figure out what colour to make each of the three eyebrow settings, which ones to apply the transmap to, which ones to turn up the max and/or min transparencies. I've tried all sorts of combinations - I even hit the right one once but didn't write it down, so I've forgotten. It was so easy with Victoria 1. DAZ's only useful FAQ on this is to buy their Victoria textures and apply the MAT. Right. All I want to do is ignore Victoria's stupid brows and use the eyebrows from the texture I've applied, along with the transmap. Please help!
