There is really no comparison, whatsoever. C4d is based in modelling and can do lots of stuff as well or better then the major "top end" modeling programs. you can bone and animate a figure in C4d, but it's a lot harder to do then loading a figure into poser which of course is designed really to do only animation and stills of boned figures. as for the rendering engines, P5 has a very nice engine, compared to the p4 engine. and for the money its quite good but fairly slow. but you can't compare it to C4d. we're talking apples and oranges again. but bottom line do you want to get a sub $200 upgrade of whats basicly a one trick pony, (albeit in my opinion one that does that trick so well and easily that its easily worth the rediculously low price) or spend $1600 on a package that is becoming more and more commonly used on big budget professional films. you can get some really spectacular images out of C4d but you are talking a huge leap in the amount of work that it involves getting those images. basicly if you dont want to learn to model. and want to use other peoples models to assemble your own scenes and render stills or animation from them you would probably be better off sticking with Poser or better yet go poser and Vue D'esprit for the ability to do detailed outdoor scenes and use a better rendering engine. if you like the idea of modeling your own scenes and props and have the time to devote tons of hours to doing it, C4d has to be one of the best for doing that as well as being fairly easy to learn (if I can learn it anyone can) but expect to take many many many times longer to assemble the same scenes that can be done with ease in poser.
