Render the same image in both. This is a bad method for comparison. I can setup scenes that look awesome in Poser 5 that look like cr*p in Cinema and vice versa. E.g. Cinema 4D has fast caustics and radiosity implementations, but doesn't offer true displacement mapping. Overall, the two applications have different target audiences anyway. Cinema 4D is a comprehensive all-in-one 3D suite where Poser is clearly focussed on character animation, rendering and partially also creation. Cinema 4D has features like NURBS modeling, particles, physics simulation or sound rendering that Poser doesn't have and probably never will have. In my experience however, character setup, posing and animation is a lot more complicated in Cinema 4D R7 than in Poser 5. Cinema 4D 8 is supposed to have better character animation tools, but I haven't used it yet. Of course, pricing is an issue: The cheapest version of Cinema4D is 699,- EUR here, the MOCCA character animation module costs another 399,- EUR and for the "Zygote humans to go" package you pay another 179,- EUR. Still, among the "big ones", Cinema still has one of the best price/performance ratios. The question is, will you ever need all that? There are some really good lower priced packages like Carrara, TrueSpace, Pixels or Real3D that have outstanding features as well. You should take a look at them before making a decision.
