Well, i too have used Bryce, and from experience I belive that unless you're willing to spend hours looking on the internet for models to create interesting landscapes i think abstract is the way to go.

Here's a pic i made in Bryce. (mind you it took 3 hours to render) LOL

And if you wanna switch, Vue is the way to go.
PS: I suck at bryce too.
