Software manufacturers have to think in terms of yearly income. How much does it cost us to do R & D, pay our staff, offices and overheads? How much income would we get selling X products at Y price? Then they arrive at a price for items based on the market and how much they expect to sell. So, if you total all that up, it's obvious that if they were selling twice as many of their product, the unit price would be lower. This is known as elementary arithmetic.
