Subject: Setting figure parent - I'm going mad!!

scarressa ( ) posted Sun, 02 July 2000 at 11:44 AM ยท edited Wed, 08 January 2025 at 1:15 AM

I am using poser3 (Can't afford to upgrade yet) and am unable to set an item parented to any part of the body. Reason - Any object I import automatically has it's parent set to abdomen and the list will not drop down to show other options. If I import a figure that already has its parent set I'm fine, unless I try to reset the parent to another location. Result - Every single adjustment made forces me to adjust the props too. Help required - Is there a patch that will resolve this? 'cos I know I'm going through the motions correctly.

heya; that's weird. you're using the prop's info window to set its parent, right? the 'set figure parent' on the menu is only for figures. grab the prop, hit ctrl-i and press the 'set parent' button. i don't recall a poser 3 patch. if worse comes to worst, you can edit the props pp2 file by hand (or use cr2edit in the free stuff) to point it to the correct parent when you load it.

Thanks for the advice my friend...however....(Damn, there's always a but isn't there) The way you explained it, is exactly as I've been attempting it. I'll follow the advice you gave, unless someone knows of a patch..... He pleads pathetically.....

G'fnerr!!! As they say. That worked. I've only been using Cr2 Editor for about 2 hours and despite the complexity of it in terms of deciphering the data that comes through I don't know how I managed without it. Many thanks Bloodsong for your assistance...you're a gem.

heya; aw, thanks. :) i was also gonna ask you: did you try re-installing poser?

There WAS a patch for this. It's a problem with some video card/Win9x/monitor combinations. I used to have it, and got the patch from Metacreations. IIRC, there were about five other people with this problem here (well, at the time there was only one forum...). Now that I think about it, I believe hunting for the patch was HOW I found the forum... I wish I still had the file, but it's long gone. Maybe MetaCreations or Curious Labs could help?
