Wow--beautifully done! The sky is fantastic. The only thing I'd pick on is the bump on the water--looks a bit too "regular" or grid like. Nice job.

Yeah, the bump on the water looks way too close together, maybe scale down the texture or something. Looks awesome.

Beautiful- realistic,yet "painterly" at the same time! Oddly enough, I went down to Ilwaco harbor, this weekend and saw just such a wave pattern and thought to myself at the time that it looked like a tiling bitmap because it was so symetrical! Odd,huh?

When I opened this thread I had hopes of seeing another masterpiece from you Sambucus and I'm so pleased that that's what I found. Everything Ang said I agree with, it is truely a beautiful work of art. I think I may have to add you to my favourite artist list you know. 8) Catlin

Thanks for all the encouragment. Im not sure how much more I can do on this as its slowed my PC to a crawl and I havent added one light yet. I was going to darken it down a bit and have lights between the houses but I think my cpu may melt first. Any hints for keeping a biggish pic managable while I work on it? I like the idea of furled sails. Back to the meatblls I suppose. I purposefully chose this wave set to add to the calm feeling of evening I was aiming for. I think Ill stick with it.

Sambucus, this is an excellent WIP, very artistic and well done. I agree, I too have seen ripples on the water in coves during gentle, breezy evenings that look just like this. I would keep it as is. Great work!

Jeez! I hope this isn't a challenge entry......I'm struggling as it is..... The waves....you could try rotating the .mat about 90 degrees and have them goind from left to right, which would fit in with the direction of the sea....0.0p The Bryster

Excellent. a true masterpiece. I think the ship doesn't need any sailors on it. It would look much more peacefull without them. I agree about the water. It's to repetitive. I don't know if scaling down will make it look much better, maybe adding some variation to the bumpmap in the DTE and a slightly lower bump-setting would help more. There's something about a few parts of the models that doesn't seem right. The chimneys and some of the roofs look like they are oversmoothed. If the houses are imported meshes you should try setting the smoothing lower then 90 degrees (preferably 89 degrees). It's very subtle, but being a perfectionist I noticed it immediately.

A couple of days! If I loaded all the objects as models from a disk it would still take me weeks to get this far. Great work!

Really gorgeous. If you decide to make it darker (ie, later in the evening), might I suggest you add a star in postwork and title it 'A Tall Ship and a Star to Steer Her By'. Lin
