Subject: A plea to people selling pose packages..

I'm sure this has been brought up before but here it goes again. I've bought some pose packages from the store that I feel are rather useless to me or rather annoying to use. Why? Because the maker put body part scales, MT settings and wig placements into the pose file without specifying these things were set or it would make no sense to set them. One set scales my vicky legs by 112% on the y scale (Battle Bonanza for V3) while another sets soften hip MTs and moves any wig attached to the head. I want the pose shown, not the body part changes. My plea is please, if you sell a pose package, sterilize the poses by removing all scale, MT etc settings IF the pose is not meant to adjust such settings. Its real annoying to use a pose I bought then wonder why my figure's hips are way too small or why their boots don't fit anymore cause body parts got scaled or their wig is now 2 body lengths above their head. Freestuff I can understand. That's up for grabs. But a purchased package should do this. Unless the pose specifically says its a body shaping, wig moving pose then it shouldn't shape or move wigs. I know its cool to see your custom figures in the thumbnails in the poses but I'd rather buy a pose set with stock Vickie and stock Mike in the thumbnail and not worry about incorrectly introduced body shaping settings.

That's "But a purchased package shouldn't do this"

I have the pose pak in question and have no problems ('cos I've been using it for Vicki 1/2 and Mike - he he he). The problem I've run across is that some pose paks sold in the MP were made with Poser 5 and using Poser 4PPP I have to click on 'file is a newer format than expected' ten times to get the pose to take. But there's more vendors making pose paks recently and they're less expensive than they were in the past which is a good thing. my 2 cents

I agree. Imho, poses should never have MT references (unless it states this and it is for a specific reason and part of the product) or to anything (definitely not hair!!). The references should only be to create the pose. And I also think all products should be set for version 4 to ensure the largest no. of people can use it without getting that "newer file" error msg. It is also very easy to change the version no. and anyone making poses should set the version no. to 4 so those buying their poses use them regardless of what version of Poser is set. So if you use PPP or P5 to create poses you should just make sure your pz2 file has the correct version no. To change the version just open the file up in a good text editor. Where it has version no. change it to 4 or 4.01. Hope that helps ~Diane

too true.....we try not to let such mistakes occur in FREE stuff......and the retail items we do are a higher grade still.

Laetia Has given us merchants a really great gift of the Merchant Utiliy. It is in her free stuff Here is what her notes about it say. "This all-in-one utility contains just about everything you need to help make your products Mac compatible and conform to Renderosity's submission guidelines." It not only checks for files with the wrong version, it corrects thema and puts the word "old" at the end of the offending files so it is very easy to dump them and leave the new corrected ones. It also checks path names and mac names. As a realtively new merchant it really shortened my release time because the utility finds all those silly errors. Another awesome "free gift" from laetia.

Thanks lululee for the heads up on that neat little utility. Very cool! And big thanks to laetia for creating it!
