Something I was told years ago, when learning UNIX, is that proper Forum Etiquette is to first lurch around for a while. Get to know who's who and how others post their questions before posting your own. Foremost, always use the Search and FAQs to avoid asking what has already been asked a dozen times over. Then like Dialyn stated, be as precise as possible with your question (sometime I go overboard and get everyone even more confused then myself, LOL) and mark your thread header clearly, but please don't YELL. And then you have to be patiant, if nobody responds then check the FAQs and search again, you may be asking what they are tiered of answering; if you find nothing then wait a couple days and repost with different wording - but don't try to sound impatiant! I myself lurched here for nearly a year before making my first post, Rendo has regretted it ever since ;p Also remember this is a very diverse community so watching the etiquette and politeness can be like walking on egg shells sometimes but all in all it's like the others say, a very responsive community, very forgiving community, Very Informative community! Blue Skies & Happy Rendering!
