'That deal that grabs toys with a little mechanical crane' is normally called a Gold Digger in 'carnie' lingo. I helped build cabinets for some of them when my dad and I had a cabinet shop. The fellow that ran the game in the carnival built the basic machines, and they are 'geared' much like slot machines to pay off a certain percentage of plays according to the setup of the prizes.
