I'll try to help, but I'm not to sure. What I would do is open through Photoshop. First go to file>open, then when the window that opens, chose SHOW ALL FILES, then pick which PDF you want to open under, Generic PDF or Photoshop PDF. I am pretty sure you need to convert indexed color to save for a GIF. For a JPG you can save in RGB or CMYK. When you convert to indexed color, there are different color palettes to chose from.
