BTW I had a theory (as good as any other IMHO) that the if the first "test figures" were thrown together by developers from standard primitives, then the figure "head" could well have been a sphere based on a round 0.1 diameter. If so that would naturally have lead to a "standard" figure height of between 0.7 and 0.8 internal units - with the standard Poser scaling regularised from that measure sometime after (7.5 x 0.1 head heights for a 6 foot figure conforms exactly to the 96 inch scale).
