I know this won't solve your problem,but, the dress looks like its a patchwork paneled pattern, instead of a solid patchwork.. Unless it has a lot of severe jaggies in it(the picture is too small to get good detai), it would really be acceptable from what I can see, as is. Accidents aren't always unlucky. Anyway, good luck, whatever you decide to do.
