Hi Folks! Since this issue seems to push a few folks buttons, maybe I should offer some insights into why it pushed mine, before this degenerates into an online pissing match. In fact, arcady, its a tech support problem that prompted me to enter this thread. I dont work for a software producer, so piracy doesnt affect me in that sense. But one of my professional activities is teaching courses on desktop publishing, computer animation, and 3D design at a major university in the northeast United States. This past academic year a significant amount of tech support in my classroom/lab had to be spent recovering computers that had been disabled by jerks who had attempted to override security protocols and illegally download software. This was tech support that was therefore not available to my students, although they pay handsomely for that assistance in student lab fees. Im also still smarting from a classroom confrontation with a student. I made a major deduction from an assignment after I determined she had copied some artwork from a web site and had not given appropriate credit to the original artist. In the academic community, plagiarism is one of the most serious offenses one can commit. I understand that there are users who innocently arent aware of the implications that emerge from questions like the one that started this thread. But theres also a lot of unethical creeps out here, as some of the recent online controversies about materials theft have demonstrated. The success of this Forum depends a lot on a continuing support from producers such as Zygote and hopefully, Curious Labs. That support will evaporate if they feel that the forum is not acting decisively enough to discourage the circulation of illegally obtained software. I think the moderators would agree with me. I will support their efforts by continuing to be vocal about at least examining if not challenging the veracity of requests like the one made by rogue. Peter (Dr Zik)
