What is known basically is that "DAZ|Studio" is a program which will allow the DAZ figures to be put into images. What is also known is that it is not "Poser", but a separate application. It may be competitive or cooperative, that is for the future. However, it IS separate, and when the time comes, this community will divide. People who use "Bryce" may also use "Vue D'Esprit". Some artists only have one or the other program. Most of us use the tool for the job... IF we can afford it. (How many of you have a paint can opener and how many just use a screwdriver? How many know that there IS a paint can opener?) The expense is not just the initial purchase money, and the costs of all the plug-ins, figures, what-have-you, but perhaps more importantly, the time to learn an application. There were wish lists a-plenty in this Forum before Poser 5 was released. A good many of the people here said that they wanted flexible cloth and strand-based hair and real materials and all the goodies of the high-end applications at a hobbyist price... and then screamed bloody murder when they discovered that they'd actually have to learn how to use such an application, too. The Materials Room alone was a major step up in complexity. By being modular, DAZ can give away the basic rendering program to everybody who just wants to click and the naked Vicky is posed on her tippy-toes against a portrait drop... and sell the add-ons for anybody who wants to do anything more such as animation or morphing or whatever, depending upon consumer demand. For example, if there was a demand to adjust texture on the fly as in MetaCreation's "Detailer", DAZ would probably do that, but most people just want to apply a store-bought texture. Why else would a product come with 16 lipstick colors taking up slots in the Pose folder? The DAZ application will fill a niche, and ought to be extremely successful. Carolly
