I know the BBC has used bryce before on a documentary about the weather. they made a quite impressive river with it. It was reviewed in one of the early issues of 3DWorld mag. Bryce 5 could well have been used to make virtual terrains, because that's what it's best in. I can't give any names of famous films though. As for not so famous names: Planetary traveler has been made with bryce2 and 3d.
