THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Strange B5 Error

When I tried to save a Bryce 5 file, I got this error message. This happened 3 times, so I wasn't able to save the scene file, although I was able to save the image. And thank God, because it was a 10 hr render.

Anyone know what this error message means? I've never seen this one. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I used the Planetary Resolution option on the terrains.

Thanks,

Doug

Where were you trying to save scene file too. Could be important.

ocddoug ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 4:54 PM

I save to one of my own folders (Bryce1, Bryce2 etc...). Never had this problem before.

Did it lock up or could you try to save to a different drive ("I /O bad media " not a good sign.

thats happened to me before, either when i tried to save or tried to open, it really sucks--but, did you try saving it as a new file? when it occasionally does this to me ai just save it as a new, and it works fine. atleast you saved the image!

I've had this error before too--some things to check: 1. any image textures greater than 4000x4000 resolution 2. any image textures with long file names (can't remember the length that Bryce doesn't like) Just some guesses. At least you could save your image.

Net search seems to hint at imported object problem (poser and lightwave) did it have any in scene file

Erlik ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 5:24 PM

Yes, it's the error message with obj and lwo files. But it happens when you import the file and then you cannot import it. Usually when you have a Lightwave 6 file, cause Bryce runs up to ... 5, I think. Doug, just in case, have you run the defragmenter and/or disk scan lately? Might be your drive is getting flaky. Cause when you Save, the file is saved in the same place, and when you Save As, it's saved in another. If the surface of the disk got damaged in the meantime, Save will try to save over the damaged place. Hope that's one of the problems mloates listed. Infinitely better than a flaky drive.

"2. any image textures with long file names (can't remember the length that Bryce doesn't like)" Bryce will only take a maximum of 30 any more and it spits at you. 8) It's a great image BTW, I just commented. Catlin

Kestrelrise: I only tried to save to my D drive, didn't think to try the C. Woodhurst: I'm not sure what you mean. When I was working on the image, I saved it along the way: untitled1, untitled2 etc. When done rendering, I saved it as a new name under SAVE AS. Yea, I'm glad I got the image. I wouldn't be writing this otherwise 'cause I would have smashed my comp lol... Erlik: I've run defrag within a day, but haven't run scandisk in awhile. I will try that and see what happens. I don't need a flaky drive :-( Catlin: No image textures were used, but the ridiculously huge resolution on the terrains might be the culprit. I appreciate the comment! Thanks for the replies, folks.
