Misha - The only thing I could think of that makes sense is the battery. The 1N is built like a freaking tank with fantastic build quality, I can't think of anything else that would make it do that. If getting a new battery doesn't help, I'd look at getting the camera cleaned, but I wouldn't think that would be the problem with the sealing on the 1N. Tell you what, I'm your friend.
