Troy was considered a myth until Heinrich Schliemann dug it up. The greeks did also invent Centaurs Nymphs Dryads and Pegasus. Fiction is not unknown in greek storytelling. I'm afraid without ruins, coins, the Egyptian golden pillars, etc. the story will have to remain a legend.
