Well, not that expensive if you consider the Complete version which competes well with Lightwave3D and Cinema4D at $2000. Unlimited version, otoh, is very expensive ($6000). 3DSMax is somewhere inbetween these two (at $3500).

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
