It also helps to name your objects, You can do that by clicking the 'A' Button on the object select menu or go to Object>Attrubutes. I find this helpful when i have negative objects so i wont get confused When i see Sphere 1, Sphere 2, Sphere 3 on the menu AS mentioned.
