Subject: Has everyone gone mad?

iamonk ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 10:19 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 4:52 AM

I've noticed a trend of bitchiness lately. I am left to wonder why. M3 makes his debut, and in my opinion is a giant step up from previous Mikes. Yes, I too feel he looks a bit feminine is stock form, but that is what morphs and magnets are for. Perhaps everyone is getting lazy. I spent nearly $100 on M3. I don't expect absolute perfection, I just expect him to function. Does no one remember V1, M1, Steph? These characters could do very little "out of the box". Everyone seems to want modular, something they can buy add-ons for what they need, but complain when they have to purchase the add-ons? Fact of the matter is, V3 and M3 are highly detailed meshes, they offer the ability to remove morphs to save resources. The complete packages are more expensive than previous versions because they are better models, and more versatile! V2 and M2 were basically a package of morphs for V1 and M1, right? I don't remember too many complaints then. If you are unhappy with M3, by all means stop whining and send him back! If you think he can't be made to look masculine, that only means you are so incompetent that you can't turn a couple of dials. And if it is the money spent that is steaming you, make your own mesh! Or, here's a better idea, get off your lazy ass, get dressed for work, and on the ride over practice "Would you like fries with that?", someday a management position will open. The little issues I am happy to be made aware of, but these posts that do nothing but complain are just annoying.

dirk5027 ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 10:56 AM

Anyone that spends there money, has a right to bitch if they are unhappy... also you making a post bitching about people bitching, makes you as guilty as everyone else

AkoSteve ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 11:12 AM

There will always be people complaining, iamonk. Sometimes it's valid and sometimes not. I think forums just make it really easy to do both kinds without any fear of major consequence. Just about any big new release I've ever seen in any kind of category has the same kind of reponse on forums. I guess I'm jaded, I just expect it and try to not get caught up in it. It all calms down eventually.

elizabyte ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 11:22 AM

Well, I want to complain about people complaining about people complaining! ;-P

LOL Deecey it is pretty funny, i got a giggle

iamonk ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 11:54 AM

Now I'm a troll?

A turd?

This used to be a place where one could get help, now it is a forum for complaints.

I'm not trolling, just pointing out how silly some of these posts are. Complaints are fine, but lately they have been based on opinion instead of an actual problem.

Furthermore, I feel I am superior to NO ONE just because my wallet can absorb a $100 hit. I can easily justify the cost
since I do not have the time to create my own mesh, I work. Bashing a decent product just because it doesn't meet your idea of perfection is childish.

Everyone does have the right to bitch, I am no better because I wasn't the first. I understand.

Moonbiter- I'm a troll? A turd? Well in that case you can EAT ME!

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:02 PM

I try to get along, I try not to jump in on too many controversies ... and when I am able, I try to find solutions. To follow the example of another quiet note of protest, I have a plea. All of us, myself included, have to keep in mind that every one of us here is a person with individual feelings and opinions. We are all here to share a common interest, and the constant bickering, finger pointing, fighting, complaining, and so on, is doing nothing but driving people apart further and further. It really should stop ... and get back to the original purpose of this forum. To learn, and to share. If we can't learn to get along with people that SHARE our interests, how on earth will we ever learn to get along with people that don't? Please? 8-(

cherokee69 ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:02 PM

So, iamonk...let say you go out and purchase a new car and it turnes out to be a lemon. I guess your going to keep your mouth shut and not complain about it....yeah right.

SWAMP ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:12 PM

...NTIATEAT.....!!

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:20 PM

Actually cherokee69, it would be mroe like buying a car and then complaining about the color, or that the car's stereo doesn't sound exactly the way you expected it to. One and only one opinion from me on that particular matter: You're going to have to use the morph dials, folks - it's not like the product page doesn't have example renders on it, y'know ;) /P

garblesnix ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:24 PM

OK, if M2 and M3 had a fight?...ok?..and they could use only 3 MT each...ok?...and Steph and Vic couldn't help but could only stand around wearing chainmail undies ...ok?...and, like, who would win?..........ok? I'll take my answer off the air........ok? diffusing the anger by distorting the focus, G'snix the Trickster

discontent is the father of progress ~ D. Rockefeller As consumers we have the right to "bitch" about the product's quality. If we don't, how else will they improve their products. Then again, Daz offer a 30 days unconditional money back guarantee. Take your pick.

cherokee69, if your definition of lemon would be...

uses too much gas though you chose the performance engine

your ass sticks to the optional leather seats

it doesn't look "butch"

the dash controls are not to your liking

the exhaust sounds like one long giant fart

...then yes, I would have no reason to complain, I would keep my mouth shut. I make purchases AFTER researching the product. Many rely on this forum for help, some would shy away from a purchase if there are complaints about it. Would you like potential customers turned away from a product you were marketing. Sometimes I think people just like to pick at any possible flaw.

I think Deecay has managed to express the point I am trying to get at. This is a place where people come seeking and offering help. Criticism is good only as long as it is helpful, lately the critics have been childish.

I have spent a lot of money at DAZ, everything I bought was the highest quality available for the price.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:50 PM

...so you'd rather exercise the 'right' to sit around and complain than actually try to solve the problem first? That's weird. I really hate to say it (I can see the self-righteous flames now), but it has to be said: That kind of thought is why the CG snobs at cgtalk.com look down on Poser so much. No, really: it's like two extremes in CG nowadays... on one hand you have folks who require you to sweat over every poly yourself before you're counted as "worthy", and on the other hand you have folks demanding that the only actions an artist should have to perform is to import the models into a scene, double-click a pose setting, then hit "render". I'm not intentionally picking on you (I'm intentionally picking on everybody :) ), but that's just how it looks from here. By the by (and now I am picking on you :) - Mr. Rockefeller made his huge pile of cash by exploiting others' discontent to fill those needs at a profit, yes? I sincerely doubt he meant to say that discontent gives someone license to do nothing more than complain or demand refunds. For example - if I were a merchant, right now I'd be busy working up a 'super he-man' character for M3, because it looks to be a ready method for making a lot of money right now... :p /P

pzrite ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 12:57 PM

iamonk, I've learned (especially here) that you have to pick and choose your battles very carefully. An innocent observation can be attacked as viciously as the Marines attacking Sadam. For every opinion there is at least one person out there who will be thrown into violent fits of anger. Is Renderosity getting meaner? It seems that way. It seems that the majority of posts always seem to have at least one nasty comment in the thread. To get things back on track, I think it will take people constantly being reminded to have fun, ask questions, make comments and not take things so seriously. (I have to remind myself of that quite often too)

JVRenderer ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 1:00 PM

hehe Pengy, I like you. You don't discriminate, you just hate everyone equally. Mr. Rockefeller made his huge pile of cash by exploiting others' discontent to fill those needs at a profit, yes? Yes, and Daz will release a M4 next fall. if I were a merchant, right now I'd be busy working up a 'super he-man' character for M3, because it looks to be a ready method for making a lot of money right now... :p And when it comes out, you're gonna hear us bitch and moan about him. It's a viscous cycle. JV :D

...It's a nice change from all the P5 complaining. At least this one can be easily solved. BTW, John Ritter and Johnny Cash both died. M3 looking like a sissy doesn't compare (and yes, I can use the word sissy, I am one).

What are we doing in Product Showcase?

sandoppe ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 1:14 PM

Not sure if everyone's gone mad.....think it might be that there is too much war and dissent in the world and not enough money in the economy :) Anyway, I echo Deecey's sentiments and I do see what you're saying Iamonk. But hey.....where else could you get called a "turd" and a "troll" within two "mouseclicks"! Personally I don't care for some of the negative stuff either, but oddly enough, I find myself reading them!! Why is that I wonder? I could simply close the window and move on to another thread......but again....I think it's because we've all had way too much exposure to "strutting males" who think it's a big accomplishment to cream a "small country" with "no nukes" :) But that's just my opinion. Love your "Romeo's" Deecey and pdxjims, I love your "moxie" :)

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 1:21 PM

LOL - tru dat, JV! :) "It's a viscous cycle." 10w-40, or is it hydraulic? :p /P

DCArt ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 1:29 PM

I also like pdx's moxie (hehehehe ... I got a chuckle from that). And share his sentiment on the loss of two talents today. John Ritter's death is a real shock! I think what I was trying to say behind my earlier post, is that there IS a way to voice opinion without belittling someone's character or hard work. Remember: The folks that created the software and models that you know and love worked VERY hard on them. Show them the same respect that you would want if you spent hours, weeks, months, or even years, toiling over something. If you're not happy, you have the right to say so ... but please try to say it with respect to the feelings of others. Also, not everyone has a great job, especially in today's economy. To imply that someone is inferior because they work at a fast food place is harsh ... real harsh ... in these times. A LOT of us (myself included) are barely scraping by right now. Have a heart. I might be perpetuating the argument by saying this ... but we really need to laugh, and enjoy life.

She: "... How about some strawberry tart?" He: "What, no rats in it?" She: "Well..... there's a couple." He: "Mmm.. okay, I'll have a piece with not so much rat in it then." (One piece of strawberry tart with not so much rat in it later) He: "Disgusting!" She: "Oh, you're always complaining." (Excerpt from Monty Python) :] Fish Take me seriously, people.

8-) Well done. LOLOLOL

Caly ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 4:26 PM

Am SO shocked about John Ritter.... had just seen him in an Entertainment Tonight show... If you buy something and it doesn't work as advertised, by all means, send off a polite complaint through the Proper Channels & try to get it resolved. You can even very nicely warn people that something doesn't work as it should, but that you're already working on getting a satisfactory solution. Bitching that M3 looks like a girl does absolutely no good. Daz does indeed have preview renders. He has a ton of morphs. Use 'em. ;)

Sorry, but you can't use "sissy" as an insult (even to yourself) and get away with it without comment. The word comes from "sister", and implying that being female or feminine is somehow too horrible for straight-talk (and thus we must use a euphemism) is pretty damned insulting to those of us who ARE female. I don't care if you are top, bottom, or inside out. I don't care if you have orgies with 3-legged 4-masted Martians (but only on Tuesdays). I don't care if you like or dislike women. Just don't use being female as a pejorative term! Carolly

Spit ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 7:17 PM

Carolly? ::yawn:: I'm a woman and I can take it, why can't you? I'm surprised you didn't complain about all the times the word 'bitch' was used. :)

sniff sniff sniff-f-f-f-f

I seem to detect the odor of political correctness......

I know! Renderosity needs a "speech code"! Just like major colleges and universities! Those bastions of correct thought - where one is forced to be free!

At Renderosity, the use of words like "mankind", along with the use of terms like "manhole cover" or "man-hours" should be cause for immediate banning from the forums.

Of course, offenders MIGHT be allowed back in, as long as they agreed to attend sensitvity training classes. Once they have demostrated proper thinking; that is to say, proper thinking as defined by others: perhaps, just perhaps, the offender may be forgiven. BUT, only after a required period of groveling......bowing before a photo of Saint Steinem........burning incense to the icon......

They will learn to love Big Brother! Oops - of course, I MEANT to say "Big Sister"!

(Big Sissy)?

orangeparty ( ) posted Fri, 12 September 2003 at 11:40 PM

why is it assumed the use of "sissy" is an insult? I don't think pdxjims meant it that way. (shaking head) everyone seems so eager to jump on someone these days. getting to the point where I'm almost afraid to post an opinion anymore for fear of pushing somebody's buttons. going to go wear out my copy of folsom prison blues now (it's just about dead - I've had it forever). someone I conisdered one of my heros died today. sometimes you just gotta get some perspective. Since the forum gods chose to strike down my post I must clarify my comments. Yes you are a troll. "And if it is the money spent that is steaming you, make your own mesh! Or, here's a better idea, get off your lazy ass, get dressed for work, and on the ride over practice "Would you like fries with that?", someday a management position will open." Exactly how is that not an insult and attack on anyone who has the opinion Mike 3 is to expensive? Your thinking is that it is obvious that anyone who thinks Mike cost to much must work at McDonalds for minimum wage other wise they could afford it. Smacks of superiority complex to me. As for eating you, no thanks I don't like the taste of crap.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sat, 13 September 2003 at 1:27 AM
