Anyone know where to find a crossbow? Thanks!

I found a higly detailed crossbow at http://www.3dcafe.com under the weapons section. It's a .LW file but I'm sure you can 'convert' the thing ;-)

I'm also searching a crossbow *.3ds, *.obj, *.dxf - all OK but NO lw

I don't know what .lha is, I don't think it's a lightwave file. Marque

heyas; lha??? isn't that some archaic file compression scheme? see if winzip will open it.

Marque ( ) posted Tue, 25 July 2000 at 8:02 PM

danged if you ain't right! winzip won't open it though...arrrrgh! lets me see what is in in but I don't have the lha program to unzip it. sigh lol

Marque ( ) posted Tue, 25 July 2000 at 8:19 PM

found a program and opened it, but I don't have a clue as to what they are, there are no extentions, if you want me to email them to you I can. I threw them in my copy of 3D Exploration and it didn't pick them up and it does most of the extentions in 3D. =( You may have to email the author if you can find him and ask what's up. Marque

*.LHA is one of the oldest compression extensions there is. It used to be THE way to compress files way way waaaay back in my old days as an Atari freak. I do have a decompressor for it. The LW files are LightWave files. Can't find a converter for it though.. Damn, I hate it when I find something.. :-)

Wizzard ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 2:31 AM

Winace will handle lha's. and the Lha programme's still available just do a quick search "out there"... I think it's at a university site and still free... 8 ) Enjoy, Wizzard

heh heh... they're probably 3d video toaster models for the amiga!! ;D

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 12:02 PM

I was able to open the file and pull out the files for the crossbow. They are not lightwave files, 3D Exploration has opened lightwave files for me before. Under type of file under properties it says "file" They appear to be pieces of a larger file. The main file has an extention of .iff24 the rest just say file.

Not being one to resist a mystery I cracked open one of these files in UltraEdit to see if I could figger out what they were & all the files open with the line "Form 2LWOBSRFS Default PFNS..." so I renamed them all to xxxx.lwo & sure enough they do open in LW 5.5 (& 3D exploration :-). I guess all you have to do is assemble the pieces in Lightwave to get your crossbow :-)

cooler ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 1:21 PM

Just as an additional note you could export the files from 3D Exploration in obj format & then assemble the crossbow in Poser if you don't have LW, of course this would probably make the finished product pretty massive in terms of file size :-)

cool! good man!!! Marque

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 1:50 PM

weird, it won't let me export it as an .obj and I have the registered version of 3D Exploring

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 2:02 PM

can anyone else get to the xdsoft.com site? the first image is just the picture of the crossbow, the rest are the parts. I'm not feeling ambitious enough to put something together today. =)

cooler ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 2:12 PM

In 3D Exploration, open the lwo file & go to 'file' 'save as', name it xxx.obj & it should work. At least it did for me :-) The only odd file is the "crossbowcurves" I get no image in 3dE & the obj file is blank even though the file size is listed at 1850.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 26 July 2000 at 2:13 PM

the first figure called crossbow is an image though, not a piece of the model, it will only save out as jpg or bmp. Guess that's to show what it's supposed to look like. I wonder if the crossbowcurves is supposed to be a texture map or something? I think I will look at it later and see if I can model my own though..lol wish me luck! Did anyone else try the www.xdsoft.com site? Hope they are still around. Marque
