Well, unless you are 53, you're not older than I am, and there's nothing wrong with a little maturity when it comes to writing (some people are mature at 20, I know, and some never are--I understand it's not an age thing). I like to add twists too...but it's sometimes tricky to do them so they seem natural to the story.
