I keep OS 9 on a separate partition primarily so that I can boot into it (I have an older Mac that still can boot OS 9) and do disk repairs on the OS X partition with OS 9's disk utility and defragmentation with Norton Utilities Speed Disk (I have Systemworks 2.0) when the need arises.
