That should be sufficient for serious 3D stuff. :0) More memory is a good thing. I always here Pat and Leo say that you only need more than 512K if you're into Video or Audio capturing/editing, but it is also good for 3D CG since polygons can pile up on complex scenes and it helps when you have two 3D apps open and are working on large bitmaps within Photoshop. If you are planning to do animation soon, I'd consider another similar machine or several lower quality ones in the future for network rendering. These additional machines won't need all of the bells and whistles which will save on cost. I'm working on: Xeon 2x 2.66GHz 2GB RAM 3x80GB HDD Win XP Pro GeForce4 TI 4600 w/128MB and it is very sufficient for most of my 3D needs. ;)
C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the
foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg
off.
