I doubt if it's your hardware. I'm running it on a much less powerful system and it works fine. Same OS. 2Ghz, 256Mb RAM. Make sure that XP and your video drivers are patched up to the latest version. If the windows video driver doesn't help then try the one on ATI's website (and vice-a-versa). Sometimes there is a big difference. Also make sure that video card is supported. I think it is but I don't remember off the top of my head.
