Subject: CTRL+A keeps wrecking my pic

nontroppo ( ) posted Sun, 12 October 2003 at 6:47 AM · edited Thu, 27 February 2025 at 8:12 AM

I keep hitting CTRL+A instead of CTRL+S, and every object in my pic returns to its default position and location. And I can't undo it!! And I haven't saved because I was just about to! Is there some way to turn this horrible feature off?

Not to my knowledge :o( And it IS very annoying. I sometimes hit it in a futile attempt to access the AUX camera :o((( Since Ctrl-M is Main Camera, my mind keeps expecting the AUX camera to be at Crtl-A. Never thought of it being close to Crtl-S too, which makes it even more "dangerous", I just never save that way :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I have no solution to ctrl-a, but I do have one to access the Aux camera. It's my favorite, along with the main camera, so what I did was this. Go to the menu under the doc window and select the Aux camera. Then go to the stupid-looking camera control thingy in the pic and alt-click the face icon. Whatever camera you had there (usually Face, I think), will now become Aux, or any other one you want to put there. mac

WHEEEEE! I just tried and this works on the hand cameras too. I DO use the face camera but it is very rare that I use the hands, so for me it was a better substitute :o) Oh and I remembered to set a new UI dot too :o)

Right, ernyoka. I forgot to mention it works on the hand cameras too. I always use ctrl-= (equals) for the Face cam. That's why I replaced it with Aux. It's a disgrace that one of the most useful cameras in poser doesn't have a kb shortcut. mac

Heh, glad it's useful. These are the little things that make poser more usable. Here's one Nance told me. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I tried it. You know how all vertices in poser show up outlined in that annoying red color? Well, you can switch it off. Go to Runtime/prefs and open the poser.ini. The 6th line down is HILITE_BODY_PART 1 change it to HILITE_BODY_PART 0 and save it. Reopen Poser, and you'll never see those horrible red outlines again. Luxury! I have a spare poser.ini called 'myposer.ini' as a back-up. You can change a few things in it, like the size of the Hierarchy box. mac

The keyboard shortcuts such as ctrl-a, ctrl-s, ctrl-c and ctrl-v are not native to Poser. They are ancient history. I'm not certain if WordPerfect or PhotoShop was the first to use them, or if they appeared even earlier than that! In any case, they are industry standard for PC-users.

In P4, Ctl-U will undo a Ctl-A. Not so in other versions?

nontroppo ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 1:23 AM

?????? In P4, CTRL+U just brings up the Surface Material box.

Nance ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 2:48 AM

Drat! Came running back in here when I realized I'd made a mistake but nontroppo beat me to it. It's Ctl-Z that is UNDO, not Ctl-U (Mats). Whoops!

I find it's more efficient (for me) to click the face to go to the face camera, rather than ctrl= or whatever. I don't know, seems to me it's no shortcut if you have to take your hand off the mouse to use two hands to hit the keys. Then find the mouse again. CTRL-S, Ctrl-D, z,x,c and v use only one hand so I use them constantly. Ctrl-U for Materials takes TWO hands so I use my mouse and get there from the menu. There is a method to my madness. My hand rarely leaves the mouse except to type in a name in a save dialog.

Believe me, CTRL+Z was the first thing I tried because it generally undoes many things. But it hasn't worked any time I've tried it. However, I just tried it now on a very simple composition and it does work. So maybe once the document gets beyond a certain complexity, the CTRL+A function can't be undone.

'Ctrl-U for Materials takes TWO hands' Not for me. I use the kb whenever possible. I have 2 finger 'configurations' for my left hand, and use the mouse with the right. For all the keys on the left of the kb, I use little finger (left ctrl) + index finger (key), and for the right-hand side, thumb (right ctrl) and little finger (key). It sounds complicated reading it, but it's easy to do. I launch all apps through the kb too. Clean desktop - no icons. mac
