Most of the time Adobe tries it's best to ensure most recent 3rd party plugins are supported. The same "can not" be said about "older" plugins. I ran into trouble with KPT3 seizing control of PS and not releasing it when using certain plugin filters... The trouble was with the interface and you needed to force KPT to end. In that case, the version of plugins were considered too old to be concerned with patching (by either the manufacturer or adobe)
but it doesn't hurt to check for patches ;)
