Hi, I'd really like to make some morph targets for some of my favourite figures, and have done for ages , theres just one thing that puts me off, so please please please help. I need to maintain symmetry in body parts the picture shows the problem really when I use mirror in my app (Im using 3ds but im sure this is a common problem) the morph vertices get out of synch with those in the .obj file. If the designers of the models kept a natural order of vertices for these symmetrical parts things would be a lot easier, and Im sure most 3d app mirror ops would then work.. but anyhow... on a single body part you can use MTMirror to get symmetry, but Im not aware of any other such program that does the same for diff. body parts, for example left and right shins. If youve ever tried creating symmetrical (as i would of thought most were ? ) morphs then you know my problem .. how did you solve it ? please help .. thanks. Barrie

Attached Link: MT Mirror

I use a program called MT Mirror by MASA - you can find it at the link provided. Using this you can create symmetrical morphs just by making changes to half of your figure. Or you can make two versions of a full morph, mirroring Right to Left and Left to Right to see which one works best.

It only works if the opposite body part has exactly the same number of vertices... and many figures are not so perfectly symmetrical...

Sorry, I just cant seem to be able to figure out how to do it in MT mirror .. even if the parts are totally symmetrical to start off with .. this is the procedure I tried : A. 1.import .obj file parts to work on (maintaining grouping) (for example lshin and rshin) 2.save out as a .obj file (maintaining groupings) (for example shinsBase.obj) 3. modify one half and save out as shinsHalf.obj (maintaining groupings) B. 1. Import shinsBase.obj into mtmirror as base (OK fine symmetrical) 2. import shinHalf.obj as MT .. fine matches ok, 3. save MT as shinsFull.obj C. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I try and import the shinsFull file back into 3ds and end up with just one mesh grouping, so I can only seperate manually . .. is this what I have to do ? It seems tath mt mirror doesnt retain the groups AM I doing something wrong ? Thanks for your help, Barrie.

... yes , it worked: manually seperating the vertices into their appropriate groups .. what a palava .. isnt there an easier way ? but the good news is :) I can do it now :) thanx a lot for your helps. Barrie
