Yeah Elefont is really easy to use, but it only exports dxf files which Bryce will import anyways. It will recognise any TrueType font, including Wingdings and Webdings which can be used to make some interesting architectural details. Wings3D and Amapi 4.1 also will make 3D text and are full modeling programs, and they are free as well. If you are interested in those programs just go to the Modeling Forum and follow the links posted there.
