I was mistaken. On the Poser Mailing List, there was a discussion as to tricks to pull with this (I'm not on it, so I only have second-hand information), and it can be exported as a 3DS prop, which can then be re-imported as an (apparently) renderable prop. It seems to lose some of the "shagginess" however.
